hey guys, Ryans recent posts regarding cabriolets really got my juices going.... as some of you may already know, I have a coupster project that was cut down in the 50's. I am wondering, dimensionally what the differences between the 5 window body and the cabriolet are?? I got the bug for cabriolets from Steve Centracchio's purple flathead powered car... I must have been 11 or 12 the first time I saw it.

the guy who cut down my car put pipe in the tops of the quarters and doors... I'm thinking of shape and form.... I've had the car as it is for about 10 years and to me something about the car isn't "right" I'm thinking the door tops need to be raised like a cabriolet, to line up with the windshield bottom?? I have no windows in the doors and had to fabricate the windshield posts by hand. is the distance from the rear of the door/B pillar to the deck lid different?? I know the doors are different lengths...

I will try to post up some better shots of the car later.... this pic is over ten years old and at a bad angle... the top is now covered in wire mesh.

Rev: My '33 cabrio was in similar condition only worse. In my opinion, if your not going to rebuild the doors to accommodate the roll up windows, then I would consider making it a roadster. The door tops are not there for a cabrio. Looks like your not going to have a folding top either so the good part about a cabrio is already lost. I'm sure you could buy a cowl top and we know you can buy the windshield stuff. Just a thought. I'll include a pic of mine when I got it. 102_0591.JPG

I believe it's all really close , however the back does not have belt lines by the decklid on a real cabrio ..

If you do that and door tops very few people would ever know

i'm not looking to make any roadster or cabriolet clones... I'm really looking at the proportions. it's a cut down coupe.. no more, no less. i just want to make it look good. i haven't had a chance to get some better shots of my car yet. door lengths are different so the quarters must be as well. I'm thinking my doors may be shorter than cabriolet??

top is non folding but it is removable.
