With the lift numbers on the exhaust being over .500, you may want to make sure the valve springs don't coil bind at higher rpm (3500+). That motor will reach that rpm range faster then you expect (until you get used to it), at least the one I had did.

I posted before I saw the extra info you listed. I removed the un needed stuff.

Not sure the Whiplash is the cam I’ll use. They have a no flat cam guarantee if you use their cam, lifter and spring kit, the springs are a drop in item and won’t bind.
I’ll call Schneider and Oregon cams also to see what they recommend for a low compression engine with my gears etc. I know they can custom grind to my car weight gears, stall speed etc.
The Whiplash has pretty high lift IMO.

Our cams are guaranteed not to go flat!

    8/26/2014

We've all heard the horror stories. You spend hours and hours putting in your new cam only to fire it up and hear that dreaded backfire and popping noise. You just flattened a lobe on your brand new cam. Now you have to tear it all back down and start over. It's a sickening feeling that we don't ever want our customers to go through.

To be eligible for the guarantee you must purchase the cam, springs, lifters and break-in oil all at one time on one invoice.

Now, when you buy a "Real" Chrysler cam from Hughes Engines, not only are you guaranteed that it will make more power than any other cam of the same size, you are also getting a guarantee that it won't go flat. Every Hughes Engines cam comes with detailed, illustrated, step-by-step instructions that will walk you through the proper way to install your cam. Simply follow these steps and use the appropriate springs, lifters and oil and the odds of your cam breaking in just fine have gone through the roof! We are so confident in this that if you flatten one of our cams within 60 days of purchase, we will replace it with a brand new one at no charge.*(Subject to regulations listed below)

Terms of Guarantee: To be eligible for the cam guarantee you must purchase a Hughes Engines camshaft, the appropriate springs, lifters (solids must be EDM) and oil from Hughes engines, as a package, all at one time on one invoice. No exceptions. Cams sent as replacements under this program will not be guaranteed. (If it goes flat a second time you better figure what's wrong and fix it.)
In the event you have a cam failure follow this procedure:
    1. Call Hughes Engines within 60 days of the date on your invoice.
    2. Get a RMA# (Return Merchandise Authorization) from Hughes Engines. Write this number on the outside of your shipping box.
    3. Package the cam and lifters safely and ship them to Hughes Engines. We will examine the parts to help you determine what caused the failure so you don't end up repeating the same mistake.
    Ship to:
    Hughes Engines, Inc.
    23334 Wiegand Lane
    Washington, IL 61571

    4. Once all of these requirements have been met, Hughes Engines will ship back a new replacement cam at no charge.
    5. Customer will be responsible for any other required parts.
    6. Hughes Engines does not reimburse labor cost.

The high lift might help with the cast iron exhaust manifolds you are running, but most aftermarket cams are designed as drag racing cams, which doesn't work well for multi purpose street driving. Pay attention to the power band RPM range. In real life, a street motor very seldom sees much over 4,000 rpm, and your cast exhaust manifolds will reinforce that higher RPM range limit.
The 68/69 340 cams (manual or automatic cams had different profiles) were the hottest factory cams issued in a production Mopar small block, all the way up through the performance era based, on cast iron exhaust manifolds.
On the streets, most guys over cammed, they were easy targets for me. My motor was building RPM & moving the car while their motor was still trying to breath. The top end was a different story, my motor was flat lining between 4,000 and 4500. That was plenty fast enough on the streets, most shows of power seldom lasted past entering 3rd gear. That was fast enough to cost you your license, even back then, probably result in jail time these days.

I believe that is the deal these days, they are trying to guarantee (convince or ***ure) you their cams won't develops flat lobes because of the poor metal quality of cams and lifters these days.

I was thinking a flat cam guarantee would be a Comp thing. lol
I’ve got to knock on wood because I’ve never had a flat cam and with only one exception I’ve only bought Comp Cams for the last thirty years but then I only use solid cams.
