On the shifter note, my first car was 67 Barracuda, fastback, folding rear seat, bucket seats, and 273 column shift automatic.
We had (2) 65 Barracuda at the same time, somewhere around 1990. One was a V8 4 speed, floor shifted, the other was a slant 6 with a 3 on the tree. The slant 6, 3 on the tree was a "parts car." When I sold the V8, 4 speed, the guy insisted he didn't want the parts car, so I got it running and drove it through the summer. The shift linkage was pretty sloppy and the car was a bit rough, but it was an OK summer ride. By fall the guy decided he wanted the "parts car" too. I told him I had licensed it and was driving it, he wanted it bad enough he gave me another $100 for it. When I sold him the V8 car, it didn't need anything the slant 6 car had, I don't know if he broke something, or just decided he needed that parts car.
I might have some of this stuff out of sequence, but shouldn’t matter. Hit a couple swap meets picked up 4 14” 5 on 4 bp wheels, tires to fit and a B&M Unimatic shifter. Had the tires mounted and then installed on the car which previously had 3 13” and 1 14” wheels. Thanks to @Lone Star Mopar for the dog dish caps. Dan
Yer gittin' after it. Good job, Bob. New wheels and tires look good. I like the bad-boy stance. Had a '63 Valiant when I was 18. Slant 6 push-****on transmission. I beat that old car mercilessly. Frequent 4000 rpm neutral slams. Hit the gas, push the ****on. And it just took it.
After I got the engine installed and shimmed so the oil pan and drag link have plenty clearance I modified the transmission cross member for dual exhaust.
Yall are too kind. Im just a hoodlum having a good time ! You're making quick work on the Dart Dan. That was one of the most rust free projects Ive seen. Great to follow your progress, thanks for sharing !
I picked up a B&M Unimatic shifter at a swap meet cheap. Made up a bracket for the shifter cable, the B&M bracket mounts to the transmission pan bolts and I didn’t really like it. I also filed the detent deeper for a more positive engagement. You know my mind was spinning like a hamster wheel What about reverse lock out? Thread on reverse lockout. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/reverse-lock-out.1341784/ I will use the old column shifter handle to fab up lock out similar to the picture of one @swade41 sent me. Dan
That's it. It's a race car now. Very hard for Mopars to not become race cars. It just kinda happens. Like Moparmorphosis or somethin'.
Made a Yo Yo shifter handle from poker chips View attachment 6633570 Modified the floor, made an access hole and panel to make accessing the transmission lines and shifter linkage easier.
Well maybe a wannabe race car, need some engine mods to get there but eventually.., I would love to have a shifter like Swades they are pricey. Dan
Dan, Nice work on the exhaust cut-outs. I'm looking at the master cylinder, specifically the brake line. I like Nickel copper for running brake lines too. What if the adapter on the master cylinder was a 90 Deg fitting instead of a straight one? That would give you a cleaner path to the Master and get that line away from the exhaust manifold... Is there room for a 90?
It’s farther away than it looks, however a 90 would be better doh how I never thought of that. Thank you, Dan
Photos of the access hole for transmission lines and linkage. I cleaned up the hole some and made a cover plate, photos to follow when it warms up. Also shifter installed this also has a cover plate. Working on. Reverse lock out. Dan
