IMG_3849.jpeg Before I topped off fluids to start engine I slappedl some fibergl*** on the battery tray, it was rusted out. Temp fix as the battery will be installed in the p***enger side trunk.

Received the new heater core. The heater box outer shell had a crack. Repaired crack and will install the heater core.

1964, I took my 57 Chevy to Union Grove Drag strip 2X, First time, because I was only 16 they sent me home with a release form for a parent to sign, we got that signed and notarized at the local drugstore. The second time, they inspected my car and gave me a list of safety stuff for me to add including bringing a helmet. All Nice guys, I think they remembered when they were young and dumb. One man babysat me the whole time at track time They let me run that day but when I come back, have the required safety stuff installed and a helmet. A tech guy loaned me a helmet, he explained the procedures, what to do on the track, warm tires, staging, starting lights, return road, etc. Also due to the bumper off and different year engine installed, that put me a gas cl***. I watched for a while, found my babysitter, then did 2 practice runs and later had my 1 race in my cl*** being eliminated, all under supervision, It was a good experience, I thanked the guys, a very well run deal. My car was not fast, under a 100, 15 seconds, should have saved the time slip, I was hooked on circle track dirt racing and knew that was my destiny, waiting to start in my Dad's Midget, delayed to 1970, the first year of the full roll cage. HAMB am coffee. life is good.

IMG_3853.jpeg IMG_3857.jpeg IMG_3856.jpeg IMG_3855.jpeg IMG_3858.jpeg Got the seat and steering column mounted. Should’ve painted the column when I had out oh well a little brush work and it’ll be fine.
Screwed the access hatch down. Hopefully fire it up and take on short drive.
Next week hopefully I get the windshield installed, I’m a little nervous never installed a windshield.
Get the dash and wiring sorted out and I’ll be good to go.

Put a thin piece of plywood over the seat, then put the foam layer on top of it, then the blanket.

If not, only foam on that seat n’ blanket and a spring will give you a rectal awakening with out notice.

I realize this is mock up and maybe around the block stage, but install of the dash and cluster is SO MUCH easier with the steering column out.
If you have to do more than a half hour of work under that dash, the seat coming back out is helpful too.

Don't bother trying to tape up a seat, it never works. All that happens is the tape sticks to everything you don't want it to, and nothing you expected it to attach to.

Definitely easier to do anything involving the dash with the steering column removed, and you will want that heater core at least mounted in the heater box before you put the dash in the car for the last time. None of that is needed for a quick trip around the block. If the windshield isn't installed for that ride, don't forget your sungl***es or googles. The wind blowing past makes your eyes water.
    We expect a video...

I helped a buddy of mine probably thirty years ago with his front seat. What we did was lay foam over the aria that was down to the springs. Then we covered the seat bottom with a layer of 1.75” foam and finally covered it with a piece of canvas from an old tent attaching it with hog rings. We spent so time drawing it tight and I thought it looked good.

I've done a lot of seats. With that one, I'd take the old stuffing off, then hog ring (or zip ties work) some metal mesh screen over the springs. Like window screen, or a bit thicker. Keeps the springs from poking through the foam and keeps mice from chewing up the padding. Lay your foam on top of that.

Then if you want to cover that with a blanket, weave some straightened out coat hangers through the edges of the blanket, that gives you something to pull tight to hog ring (or zip tie) in place. It'll stay tight that way, won't tear or come loose.

IMG_3867.jpeg IMG_3868.jpeg Installed new pump finally. I remembered thinking that the next time I drained the coolant I would try to find a better lower radiator hose. The one I cobbled is pulled fairly tight. Tomorrow I’ll be on a hose hunt.

My older brother had a '28 Model A Tudor a lot of years ago. He fixed up the seats in a similar fashion. My mom s***ched up some very basic covers made from old canvas feed or grain bags. Must have come from an area Co-op or farm supply store.

My bother turned them inside-out to ease pulling them over the new seat foam that he cut and fitted to the frames. And I'm pretty sure he hog-ringed them into place because somewhere I've still got a vinyl pouch with hog-rings and the pliers. And I know I've never bought any.

The intention then was to cover the canvas bags with a set of more appropriate seat covers. Probably something cheap and basic from JC Whitney. But that never got done before he got drafted and had to sell the car, as was.

When I went to junior college I bought a 2 door 66 Impala to say the front seat was rough would be an understatement. One weekend when I was home mom decided to make my seat better. Boy did she, she used a heavy Indian type blanket , blue to match the car. Not sure what she used for padding but the blanket had a nice fit and worked well was comfy to boot.
