hey there...this is the 49 in progress. tonight I pulled the rear leafs out. Im planning a 4 inch drop on top of this 3 thats in the pic. Im going for the tail dragger look but I dont want to cut out my inner fenders. Soooo.....Im kinda thinkin bout puttin smaller wheels and tires on back(more drop, no fender rub.) has anyone ever heard of anyone doin this? It will be covered by full bubble skirts....most of it anyways.
Stick with factory stock wheel and tire sizes (the OEM tires were tiny!) rim width and offset and they should fit in the well with it sitting on the frame. (We usta put 14 teenagers in a '56 Chevy 210 just to say we did it, and it was on the frame and didn't rub.) And run the same size on all four, or five if you trick out the trunk like a proper trad. custom. A 14" rim will only get you 1/2" radius more clearance than a 15" and you can buy smaller tires in a 15" than you can a 14" rim, so that would defeat your aim. If you're talking 13" rim, you need chrome Daytons and a different message board.
that's what i'm doin with my car..the fron end has a mustang II so it sits REAL LOW no matter what tires are on it,and when someone slashed my tires i went to replace them, but the tire place SAID they had 225/70Rs but turns out they had 225/75Rs,so they were a little taller..well,since those were the GOOD portawalls i had that got slashed,i slapped em on the NEW tires and put em in the front.i'm just gonna yank what's left of the old portawalls off the back tires (they didnt seat rite and THEN i drove em on the highway) so i'm just gonna paint em with fusion anyway since they're goin under skirts..sorry to ramble creepy
DIRTY T has 14s onthe back of his '50 chebby, and it's real low... he has airbags, too, however.... but the 14s help. You gottal run skirts though, or it'll look real silly.
