I am running disc brakes on my 1954 chevy panel its all 1970's GM am running semi metallic pads... I have tried 3 different brands of pads over the yrs and also some covers that go on the back of the wheel with n good results still a nasty amount of dust. My wheels are powder coated and some of it has embedded itself in the coating probably from getting the brakes hot while pulling my shasta travel trailer... Anyone out there had this problem and if so what did you use to get rid of the problem...
Yep its worth it to swap pads vs ruining your wheel finish, constantly washing or buying the wheel cleaner.
I've had a lot of issues with ceramic pads warping rotors. The best I've found are the Porterfield pads and shoes.. They don't leave much dust and they stop on the dime.. :: #1 Race Specialist in The World :: (porterfield-brakes.com)
I use to buy the cheapest Pep Boys non-metallic softest pads and never had any dust or metal from the rotors which is part of the problem. good luck
Ceramic pads are clean but hard on rotors, I was told by a brake vender only put ceramic pads on a car that come oem with them. With the amount of miles most hot rod go in a year shouldn’t be a problem.
Actually ceramic pads will wear rotors less than semi metallic. Some of that black dust on your wheels is brake rotor material. Semi metallic do transfer heat better than ceramic so are better if you use your brakes hard and put a lot of heat into them. Towing, for example.
