Just got done watching the BIKER BUILD OFF on DISCOVERY. It was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. IDIAN LARRY with his OLD STYLE chopped beat out some hightech bike with no style. I made me happy to see LARRY's bike win. It was a cool old chopped dedicated to BIG DADDY...

What a contrast after that crap that was on last night with Billet Boyd!

I loved the three bike build-offs...Billy and Larry are great...bendin' stuff over their knees and using the old 'eyeball' measuring technique...glad I ain't the only one who does that!

I had to wonder how long that orange bike Billy built would go before it burned his ass....cool concept...but HOT, I bet!

He was up against a good looking guy from AZ. [IMG] Larry's bike was cool but I also really liked the AZ guy's bike too. Two completely different styles. Both can be proud of their creations. It was a pleasent nite of TV viewing.

  8. Just got in from the garage. had it on out there and it was hard to get anything done. I found myself working during commericals. That has to be the best show of it's kind I have ever seen. They were really building stuff that was real and functional. The pitting of the two diferant contrast bikes was way cool. And the hardcore bikes kept winning the competition.
Billy Lane is an awsome builder hands down. And Larrys tribute to Roth was as cool as it gets.

Now if they could only produce the same kind of stuff with real hotrod builders we might have some TV worth watching.

That show KICKED ASS [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

  9. I watched this the firat time and am watching it as I type. Really good show, I still say Billy Lane is almost as cool as Cole [IMG]

Those bikes beat the hell outta the same-cept-for-minor-shit cookie cutter crap that comes outta the American Chopper guys. And in 1/2 the time.

I thought all 3 episodes were good. I agree, Larry's bike was the best, but I'm old school. They're all on again right now. Last night I watched the 2 shows that featured Jesse James. Although I don't care for his style of bikes I thought the shows were really well done and entertaining. I wish they'd do some shows like that on hot rods.

  12. i just KNEW indian larry wouldnt win!but old school prevailed!some people still know cool when they see it!that guy that did the paint for larry was great!i bet someone here knows him, too.he was good!

You gotta see that bike in person. It is a mind blower! Discovery screwed up though there is still one more that was supposed to air tonight , Larry up against billy , not going to tell you who wins , you all will have to watch and find out for yourselves. I also got a laff at seein my own mug looking over larrys shoulder a coupla times . Hey Bluegrass, the painter Robert is a member of the Road Agents from Conn. If your ever in Brooklyn check out the shop or the website www.GasolinealleyNYC.com

  14. I really thought perowitz`s bike was way better than lane`s bike his bike in the first one was really cool but the second bike I feel was not all that but the ratings play a big part you gotta admit that its alot more interesting to watch a show with indian larry and billy lane than a paul jaffe and dave perowitz or a borget they had no personality and for the most part it showed perowitz i felt built the better bike though it may not have looked quite as cool but it was not a cookie cutter like the jaffe or borget bikes it was a well built and had a killer paint job

  15. Indian Larry's bike was drippin with cool. The other guy built a nice custom, but it just didn't have any soul. The graphics on the Indian Larry bike were outta control! Nice lettering/gold and silver leaf and nice paint work and a really kick ass Rat Fink on the tank!!! [IMG]

  16. Borgett and Yaffes bikes are just the same old cookie cutter styke that is popular with the gold chainers right now. Perowitzs bike impressed me because he did 90% of the work himself even the paint! Indian Larry is a classic no matter what he builds..and i gained a new respect for billy lane from the show he has a real nitty gritty approach to building..much like everyone on here [IMG]

I just wish the discovery channel showed the last one where Larry and Billy went up against each other , You gotta see the trick motor that the Indian Larry bike has and the surprise ending is cool too.

If you hire the paintwork, tank and seat....then you "1-800" a motor, trans, and frame and forks...is it REALLY building a bike?...sounds more like being a contractor.....The show was entertaining, but so is MTV (to some people). [IMG]

Yaffe came across as an egotistical ASS! A think the right people won in all of them. Perowitz's (sp?) bike was well built, but the proportions with a rider on looked weird, like a minibike or something. Awkward to say the least. Yaffe's looked like a Boyd car, stylish, techie, but no soul what soever. The only thing I didn't like about Indian Larry's was that it was basically just like his personal bike with different paint, whereas Billy Lane seems to try new things each time. I'm hooked on the gold metalflake, that tank made my jaw drop.

THIS is what I was talking about! Why can't (or couldn't) they do the hot rod show like this one?

I thought all the bikes were outstanding....I still don't know how they can judge them fairly... to me, they are in classes so different it'd be like putting a VW up against a Dusenburg.

I'm even liking metal flake - normally I hate it.. I cringe when I see it over-used (just an opinion).. it has its place but so many people go completely overboard with it and the finished product ends up looking cheap like plastic.

I really liked the guy in the snow... i loved where he had his shop(s)... I thought that it was GREAT that he did his own painting...

Kudos to Indian Larry for his BDR tribute bike.. those little air bag things under the seat were cool. The combination of gold and silver leaf is classic - and mighty tough to do when the areas to be gilt are so close together - quite impressive. [IMG]

I can't WAIT to see Indian Larry and Billy Lane go up against each other! They were the best two for sure, although the Snow Dude was a cool painter...but his bike didn't look that great to me!

Indian Larry's attitude and style blew me away...can't believe that there is someone else who doesn't like to run front brakes on their scoots! That 5-gear burnout was killer, too! [IMG]

It'll be good to see what Billy Lane and Indian Larry cook up for each other...they BOTH build slick and gnarly old school stuff!

Might be more fair to have Borgett, Yaffe and Painterwiz go up against each other...they build more modern cusom bikes that might be best if judged against others of their own kind.

They NEED to do a Hot Rod Build-Off...Salinas Boyz against Lobeck or something like that!!!

Probably the most entertaining three hour block of television I've seen yet! [IMG]

Dang, I loved ALL of the bikes. Each builder put together something that reflected their thoughts on bike building. And, whether or not they reflected my thoughts on the subject, I definitely liked each and every one. I did like the attitude and personality of both Indian Larry and Billy. They seemed more into the building end of the process than did the others. Just my observation.

I agree with the rest of your opinions, it was cool to see the traditional styled bikes win over the smoothed over billet bikes. I thought Billy's dragon bike was the best of all of them. Lots of neat innovative stuff and creativity. With a little hot seat to go with it! Larry's bike was very well executed and awesome paint, but did not really push the creativity aspect much. Perowitz's bike was also quite nice, a little too billet for me and the riding position looked akward, at least to me. Overall some of the best TV I have seen for a while, and I do not watch much TV just because of this too much garbage on TV.

I'm suprised that Perowitz didn't come up with some sort of old school chopper knowing that is the sort of thing that had been winning these build off's. I remember when I used to get Easyriders (before they started to try and be like Playboy) He always had some bad ass stuff in there. If I remember correctly he always used to have SS symbols and wacked out stuff engraved in his bikes (not unlike Nads' pedal). He seemed a lot more "tame" on the Discovery channel with his haircut and glasses.

I like how they build this stuff in these dinky little shops. Billy Lane's clerk was sorting out T shirts to send out 10 feet from where the sparks were flying.

I thought that it was cool that Yaffe and Perwitz both were raggin on the other guys and then both lost. Kidding or not it made them look foolish .

Hmmm, well i liked all the bikes. I just dont like "EGO'S"
I meen i thought i was the best bike builder in the world? HAHA! hey come on in 30 days? quality has to be at an all time low. after so many years at "iron horse" magazine befor it went FAG I can tell you that some of the people on the bike build offs are all smoke and mirrors but it all makes for entertaining T.V. I'd still rather watch my Ed Roth videos again or hang with mark moriority in his garage and scratch fiberglass. heres a pic of my bike, you know Old school with my honey on it. but alas I'm a nobody (snif) Im to concerned about having "friends" instead of customers.

I have new found respect for Billy Lane.. although if it was head to head Billy and Indian Larry .. i would have to go with Larry ... Indian Larry in my opinion has his finger on the pulse of american bikes ..
