ok I have searched around on the forum and havent really found the answer I was looking for. I am looking to do a front disk brake set up on a 29 Model A with a dropped I-beam when I look on speedways site for their kits. they are recommending not to use certain kits (http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/aspx/paging.yes/dept_id.351/display_id.2006/qx/Product.htm) as they are supposedly too heavy and of course the only kit I could find for a's and t's they about double the price and doesnt exactly look right. Does some one else make a conversion kit or is that too heavy stuff bull ****? also I may have some odd clearance issues I will need to use the top and bottom bolts on the spindles to clear the radius bars I've attached a few pics of the current front end. maybe someone has a better idea... also the spindles here are going to be replaced with new ones and the i beam will be a new one too
I have 49-54 chevy spindles on my T & i'm using "Magnum axle co." rotors & brackets with "wilwood" lites calipers. Works great on my T & the whole setup weights about 10 lbs per side. jimV
Maybe they mean to big in a looks kinda way, or maybe they really are heavy-big rotors-calipers and all to be hanging on a T bucket spindles??? I am also looking for disc brake ideas for my 31sedan, I was looking at the kits for 5x5.5 http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/aspx/paging.yes/dept_id.350/display_id.1997/qx/Product.htmire bolt pattern so I can keep my wire wheels. Might have to use a wheel spacer?? Also I found a post about Suzuki Samurai disc conversion (also 5x5.5) but could not find any good info. Roger
I've always used the "Low buck" disc brake kit since the 70's. It may not be the latest and greatest but it sure has a track record. You'll need the 37-48 spindles. There are thousands of Model As running these brakes. **** Spadaro catalog

I don't think you can have too big a brakes for stopping power, what they are getting at is the weight of the discs and callipers, they, the wheels and the axle are "unsprung weight" and for the physics of suspension the less unsprung weight the better.
I agree with Hotrodboy. Speedway is alluding that the brakes are too heavy and bulky for a light vehicle. They're not concerned with what look you may want. I''m sure they wouldn't recomend bias ply tires or anything else that folks around here do. Their business is selling parts to build Fad-T's and such.
