1962 Chevrolet 283 distributor, any know what color they were painted? I am rebuilding one and have it ready to paint.

Every cast iron distributor I’ve had was black. Aluminum ones were natural with orange overspray at the base.

This is cast iron, so black it is. It looked like it had some black paint at one time.

Rustoleum low gloss black is a dead on match to the factory color.

I have seen them glossy and satin black. So I think either one of those 2 would be good.

I've only seen them in Satin but I'm sure I'll be told they came both ways.

My 1960 Chevrolet with 283 engine, the distributor was gloss black. I no longer have the car.

Pretty much if not exactly the same black that the brackets on the engine were or should have been painted. Before they faded that is.

I went with satin black, should blend in nicely with the rest of the motor.
