I need a Cam Sync unit for my small block Buick build but no one makes one. I've seen where someone has cut the top off a Buick distributor housing and shaft. They then welded the housing of a Ford cam sensor to it and welded the cam sensor to the shaft. I've done some searching and MSD makes a SBC Cam Sync with an adjustable collet. I think I will have to swap out the drive gear (both shafts are .5" and maybe reposition it at the end of the shaft to get proper engagement). What I need to know is how much difference is there between a SBC distributor housing and a Buick small block. My Buick distributor is at a friends garage and they are currently away racing all this week so I can't go get it head to the junk yard and compair it to a SBC. Anyone have any dimentional data for the housing? Randall Black OldeBuick
also some guys just use the HEI version (1975 or so) and only use the magnetic pickup, with some modifications. There's a guy on bangshift.com forum who has done some neat stuff with various Buick engines and modern diy electronics.
Could you give me a link to how they set up the HEI to send a Cam Sync signal? Randall Black OldeBuick
I can't find it right now, but you might look into using one for a Grand National.... https://www.highwaystars.net/sensor-camshaft-position-cam-sensor-gm-25516915/ i'll keep looking
here's a thread about another way to do it. It's about the 455 which is very similar to the 350 buick. http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=131&t=51375
I located a NOS Buick Grand National Camshaft Position Sensor. Boy those things are rarer than hen's teeth! Most people who had them wanted 3x the original OEM price. Now I have a calibrated (max 37 degree advance used a King Electronics D16 Distributor Tester to set it up) Pertronix II with Coil for the Buick 215/300/340/350 series engines to sell.
