This was my first Dixie Fried and I had a blast! It's like a white trash Burning Man...haha ...and I mean that in the best way. Hot rods, good bands(mostly), movies, camping, barbequeing and drinking, fireworks and burnouts----what's not to like? Saw a lot of my Atlanta friends and met some new HAMBers---great folks all around. Special thanks to the Road Kings and Starlite staff for making us feel very welcome. Extra special thanks to the guy who did the burnout on the motorcycle during Tiger Tiger that not only obscured the band in smoke but also out volumed them! Marcy
Josh knows him. That car won best hot rod at the show. Look at theroadkings.com for more pics of that car in the next week or so. Crazy details on the parts he gathered for that roadster. I helped with the frame. Hehe I drilled one of the holes for the shock mounts in the front axle but i helped. Marcy sorry but don't give props to that ***hat. Don't get me wrong i like a nice burnout but the organizers decided out of respect for the individuals that were injured or killed in Tenn. not to have a burnout contest or encourage them. He also covered a cherry chevy in burnt rubber. Sorry had to get it out i feel better now.
First things first: BIG thanks to the Road Kings for a kick-*** weekend. 2nd DF, 1st time camping, what a blast! Anyone who gripes A) doesn't know how to have a good time, and B) hasn't got a clue how hard it is to pull a show like this this off. I was going to throw my '49 Ontario plate on my shoebox to take the "longest haul" award, but since I actually flew down and pulled my car out of Dave's garage in Roswell, that wouldn't have been quite fair. White trash Burning Man kinda sums it up, Marcy. Tire smoke, beer cans, fireworks, HOT chicks, BAD movies... GOOD times... thrills! chills! spills what the hell is not to like?! It's not a party 'til the ambulance arrives... Oh yeah, this show was no fun at ALL Whaddaya mean you don't see my shoebox?! See ya next year.
Mine was more of a comment on the band Tiger Tiger than on his behavior-----not sure what car he might have covered, he was right up front by us using a porta-john as a stop----no cars or people in harms way. Marcy
looks like a killer time,,wish i could have mad it out there,i miss out...sweet looking rides thanks for posting.....rooster
I talked to the guy about his roadster. All the hardware is nickel plated, detail is impeccable, flippin' awesome car. He apologized for it being TOO nice. I said the only thing I would change would be to make it dirtier...
alright the guy doing the burnout during tiger tiger was in the front. He helped the girl you see in the pics do a burnout during rock city dropouts. she was the one that got rubber all over the chevy. But here's the kicker. He got kicked out cause everybody said he did the burnout that covered the car in rubber. so the girl got away scott free.
Seriously, thanks for taking the time to reply. This was my first DF, I certainly didn't know everything that goes on behind the scenes, so it's good to hear. Yeah, I know I "squeaked" about some stuff, but let me tell you, I loved it that the handful of muscle/billets received little or no attention, as opposed to the truly cool cars that showed creativity and fun. For me, that was the best part: seeing the mega-dollar rides getting ignored. And yeah, this state is FULL of them: all just as boring as the next one. Sorry guys, I wasn't trying to trash the show. I'll say no more. Rick
My only suggestion (and again, it's probably beyond you guys control) is that the drive-in play old hot rod / chopper B movies, like 'Hot Rods to Hell' or "Hot Rod Gang" Already looking forward to next year, thanks to everyone who helped make the show what it is.
This isn't a daytime drama. That knucklehead got kicked out because he dug his own hole when being questioned about the incident. He didn't have a wristband. He was one of the first people there on Sat. (probably drove right past the ticket takers?) drove through my parking tape, and started getting in our faces about how he didn't like the new setup. This was probably because it was harder for him to constantly drive his bike through the crowd at a high rate of speed, which he did anyway. We don't know who ****ed up the Impala. There were several burnouts, pun intended, that occurred at that spot. The owner is getting it detailed and the Drive-In stepped up to pay for it because no one would stand up and admit they did something mentally retarded. The owner was a lot cooler about it than I would have been. It's over and done.
I must not have saved my last response. anyway here we go again. I want to thnk the Road Kings for a great show. The new lot is a HELL of a lot better. I have to give these guy's props for putting on a car show in the middle of a music/movie festival that they have almost no control over. PBRMEASAP, you were sorely missed. I took a bullet for ya. In your honor I drank an estimated 2.5 cases of beer over the 2 days. Trust me, the hangover I had on Sunday ****ED ***.
That dark maroon deuce was one of the nicest cars I've ever seen. I couldn't believe it was even at the place. I also really liked the '36 pick em up that was there on Saturday.
Seriously, If the owner of that burgundy deuce is in FL, I need to know how to find him. If anyone knows his contact details please PM me.
As soon as we locate our registration clipboard, we'll let you know. Right T Bone? That car is bad***. Z
The Deuce owner was with a group of guys from the Atlanta regional group of the EFV8 Club. I think he is from the Atlanta area, not down here in Florida.
Yeah I am w/ Pauly. I had fun, drank lots, most importantly hung out w/ my friends. The Road Kings and the DI staff hosted an event that caused a wad of my friends to be in one place on the same day...aint that enough?
So here's what I found out about that dark maroon '32. First, his name is Rick Wilson from the Atlanta area. Josh Mills built the frame. He found a NOS '59 AB flathead still in the crate. Found the Halibrand Quick Change in a factory of some sort, turns out it used to stir paint or something. It's got a Brookville body. He took Best Hot Rod on Saturday. Z
So since Zaemo isn't one to toot his own horn I had to mention that the great looking model a he built is featured in the new Ck Delux. Nice write up by our very own T-bone. Spent the better part of the weekend with both of them and not one mention of it. Anyway go check it out. It's the green model a in some of the pics in this post. Troy
the show was awesome. im definetly coming back next year. this really is the best show in the southeast imo. thanks, chastin
The (drunk) guy on the motorcycle was asked knock off this type of behavior on at least one occasion earlier in the day. The white Impala you see in the picture is a well cared for, well known, driven local car. The owner is a friend of the Road Kings and has been to every Dixie Fried/Drive-Invasion since the first. I believe he was the winner of best Stock in 2000 or 01. The front of his car was peppered with burnt on rubber, asphalt, dirt etc. A local detailer stepped forward and offered to detail the car at a reduced price, which the Drive-In paid. The fine gentleman on the motorcycle, when confronted, denied having anything to do with the rubber spray, claiming not to know who it was. His friends also plead ignorance.....this despite numerous witnesses to the contrary. He was promptly 86'd and is banned from attending future Drive-Invasions. Now Randy...you can get all offended that someone called your friend an ***hat, but I believe the picture speaks for itself. And, because you are the president of the southeastern chapter of the Road Devils, I'll ask you: Would you condone this at your show?
It looks like that Nazi fella is doing a burnout while holding a corn dog in his throttle hand. Is that some kinda white power salute to fried food?
