thats the issue. maybe its not impossible for us Mad Scientist. but for joe hot rodder?... again nothing beats pre mixed chemicals, the are complex as it is. no need to make this process more complex than it needs to be

you just need to make sure you follow the steps..

    fist step.

High heat glossy exaust paint.. allow it to cure for 2 days with heat
Spray on chrome process. make sure its dry. may heat it up for a few minutes
2k Clear coat( I used Sherwin Williams, normal auto clear)

hi there(sorry I took so long)...

from my experience. that looks like two thing..

first. not enough cleaning(watch my videos)
    no wetting agent(watch my videos)

the process just dont work right without the wetting agent

dont use Acrylic base. use 2K polyurethane. what you need is a glass like surface. 2k will cure, acrylic wont

Awesome job. as you know(or will know) when you get the Silvering done, you wish that was the last step, but its not. you need to top coat it. and thats when the headaches(if you didnt do it right) will begin.

I rushed a job and this is what happened
    [IMG]

thats also when the yellowing becomes more aparent.. and you begin to scratch your head as to how can you get rid of it.. well I could never get rid of it, so I used the violet tinted clear from Alsa Corps.. it does wonders...

I know silver must be silver. but if you have a silver ring. place it next to a chrome piece. you will see how bluish the chrome looks and how warm the silver ring looks... Spray on chrome is only a micron thick. its the nature of the beast

Me? paid for R&D?.. No, just sharing my ups and downs on trying to make this process as easy as it can get, so joe hot rodder can do it.. and this "stuff" has been around for centuries, what makes you think it will go away?

your getting to the hard part now...

I´ve been there many many times now. but you wont learn from it if you dont experienced it.

    why does it get darker?

1st. not enough silver. yeah it may look like a mirror, but it may need more silver, you wont know untill you clear coat it, if its too dark then no enough silver..

    2nd. bad sensitizer..

but I believe its the first one for you...

    I´ve been there, done that

    Hi!
Today i spent all day in my underground laboratory! Yes, i get good silver finish, good reaction speed and no burning anymore! For this is ok! i mix my formula many times and one and thats same! BUT, i so that in silver is like small dots, like small clouds, very very small! U can see them only if u look so close and i cant photo them! I cant understand why :(
Maybe my chemicals- silver nitrate is not enought pure? I try on glass, there i cant see them!

Nicamarvin in my country i think i cant get Sherwin William paints! I will ask to my friend some urethane color, but i newer so it!

Yess, there is no questions that Alsa production is goo, but shipping priece to my country will be cosmic and waiting two - three weeks!

Ah yes, Angel Gilding chemicals- SnCL went bad after THREE days :)

    I get pure SnCl2 from laboratory! I use 1g SnCL on 1l D water.

I cant help you on this issue. as there are way too many variables.

Urethane is not a color, its whats the paint is made of.

this is their weak link... but they seem to know this and have created a long lasting sensitizer

I will think about color next week! I will browse all colors shops in my city ha ha :)

Maybe u know how much silver Angel Gilding use for 1 liter of silver solution?

Do u try to mix your own sensitizer with SnCl2?

Nicamarvin do u try alsa or other sensitizer with wetting agnent? How they work? It is a little mad to wet all the time with wetting agent! It is easy to make some little scratches when u wet surface!

I have problems with blowing surface with air gun! How carefully i try to do this but it is almost imposible to get 100% clear surface and in some places stay or dry water and there is dirty later! How can i get all water off easier?

    I like colored chrome..

I did the math years ago. but could never reproduce a good result with my own formulas so I stopped doing that

I did try with other sensitizers, one was made out of lead, but again I could never reproduce a consistant results so I stopped doing that.(and lead is bad for you)

well you can use force air instead. then you can use the heat gun
