I know that most carbs power valves need to be boost referenced when mounted above a supercharger (blower). Has anyone drilled a 97 to add a power valve reference? Is it needed? If so, any pics? I just don't want to run it lean at WOT. Thanks in advance
97"s power valves are not vacuum actuated, they are 100% mechanical and are opened when the accelerator pump contacts them
Yes, mechanical... Hello, Nothing added except to take apart each carburetor, clean it, if needed and making sure all things worked as it should. Prior to installing them on top of the new 671 supercharger in April, 1960, that was the backyard garage set up on a large white towel work area. Do one at a time, get it right and install it on the Weiand manifold. It was difficult to get all 6 running together and with the help/information from Reath Automotive experts, we got it running in top shape for a quick run down the neighborhood streets. Our progressive linkage was modified from the purchase set up. all 6 carbs worked together to give us instant power upon acceleration. Care had to be taken not to open it up all the way from a stop light. It was fun, but for the street driving, the center two carbs would have been the normal set up with the outside 4 carbs coming on when necessary. The 6 carbs all at once was not your daily driver set up, that is for sure. By the time we got it to our local Lion's Dragstrip, it was getting close to perfect tuning and the speeds + e.t. times were falling fast. The C/Gas national record was 12.40 E.T. Our last run was 12.60 E.T. So, we were doing something right. The 6 carbs were a step above running dual 4 barrels. Those two options were in our price range. But the little speed shop where we bought the 6 Strombergs said the 6 would be far better than dual quads. We found out a lot of racers were using 6 Strombergs and then when the two hole Hilborn Injectors were being sent to the speed shops, we had ordered one for our next step in "more power." Jnaki My brother had a two car lead on the C/Gas class champion at Lion's Dragstrip in August 1960., past the Orange Timing Tower. All with tuned, simple 6 Stromberg carbs on a 292 c.i. SBC blower spec motor. At the time of this photo, we were in our first B/Gas class level.
