I used this one for about 3 months.
Moved around real easy and supported it with a 2x4 at the front at times.
Locally made and rated for 1500 lbs.

A stock 235/261 is about 650 lbs. per shop manual specs.

I think your manual is specing the truck block's.
I know they were a significantly heavier-built engine, but the car engines were a little under 600.
I seem to remember them listed at 575 lbs., but they could've been a little heavier.

Did that research last year, when I swapped the 216 in the picture for the 261.
I was curious about the weight difference for the front suspension.

The 216 car manual showed about 600 lbs and the 261 truck manual showed about 650 lbs.
    Practically the same....

  4. I rebuild approx 150 engines a year. Every engine gets a stand as long as it will bolt to the work head. I like to assemble engines with the bore the straight up so the piston drops straight down. I just hate to wrestle an engine on the bench top. I have 5 stands that are all home built. The key is to think when you build or buy. No flimsy shit and the 3 leg stands are fine as long as the front leg extends far enough. And if your moving the 3 leggers push from the front and let the back part of the stand do the work. I like the 3 leg stands because I degree a lot of cams and I found the 4 leggers to be a bit clumsy>>>>. I almost forgot the best advice. Why would you hang a $5000.00 engine on a $49.95 dollar pyle o shit stand??????>>>>.

    Yep, truck block.
In fact, I don't think the 261 ever did come in a car, did it?

Makes no sense to get a crappy engine stand or hoist....especially with those long big old inlines.

Yes, the 261 was a truck engine. First introduced in 1954 big trucks, 2-1/2 ton.

But even the 1940s 216 car engine has almost the same weight.
The 50 lbs difference don't matter much to a decent engine stand or hoist.
The suspension on my coupe has the same final height with both engines.

    Quite true, on all counts.
Thanks for the confimation on the 261. My Dad put one in his '60 Apache 10, after the 235 dropped a rod.
$100, out of a bus and he ran it "as is" for the next 13 years, until he sold it.
