Volt or amp gauge? If the gen charges at all it doesn't need polarization.

  3. yes, it should be polarized. reverse polarity can cause arcing, and burning of the relay contact points.

  4. Hey dude, there are plenty of hints and tips on you tube believe it or not. Look for the video of the older dude with grey hair and beard polarizing an old M.G. I remember something about university motors or something like that as the author who submitted it. Look it up.Good luck with it!

Yes, polarize it. On regulator, briefly connect jumper wire between battery terminal and armature terminal. Don't touch field terminal.

The generator itself is not polarised - that comes from the regulator - its this bit you need to make sure is polarised correctly

If memory serves.... I'm pretty sure you polarize the regulator, not the generator.

The polarization is done at the regulator but it is the generator that is being polarized. A generator should be polarized every time it is re-connected after bring disconnected.

Google "polarizing generator" and you'll find lots of good info

The polarity of the pole shoes in the generator is determined by the direction of the last current through the field windings. Since even a very small amount of current can polarize the shoes, never ***ume the generator is properly polarized. The generator must be polarized every time it is serviced or disconnected.
