  1. That was sarcasim,Chilly!

  2. On another thread I suggested the term Turditional to describe the new style of shitbox. I'm gonna throw that out here, too.

I get what you are all saying... I look at the pics and go to the few shows I go to and I'm lucky to see 5 cars that really grab my attention/imagination...

But shit... I'm just glad I'm at a car show or looking at old cars...

If you slow down and look a little closer, there's always something interesting going on there, even if the package isn't that riviting...

Granted, looking at pictures on the internet isn't going to allow you to get in close and check out brackets or wiring, or plumbing, etc...

But instead of knocking the pics, next time get off your ass and go to the show...

I garuntee you, some of those same cars that triggered the 'Blahs' in you, have something interesting going on...

But then again, when I had a driving car, I always got way more from just cruising around with nowhere to go than I did at any carshow... And right now, I get way more out of just sitting in my hot-assed dirty shed (the illustrious 'Amish Hot Rod Shop') than I do looking at pics online...

But you can't always be driving, and you can't last more than a couple hours in the K.A.H.R.S. in the summer.

So just be glad you're looking at old cars...

"Tfeverfred" understands. Hot rods are hot rods and car people are, and always have been, car folks.
    Different styles for different folks.
Although the really neat cars never go out of style.

  7. Some of you guys will NEVER be happy! I'm not gonna bash the cars that were there. I WAS THERE! WERE YOU? NO! I enjoy the drive, breakfast with fellow HAMBers,Kiwi's BBQ,Dan's Open House,Hanging with other HAMBers at the Hotel, talking to other HAMBers at the show, and the ride home. All of which I did. Didn't see any of you guys there!!!

  8. Hey Bob, where's the usual tow truck pic?

You're never too young to be a dirty old man! Or an Old Fart, either.

I hadn't seen your thread when I started this, and you've improved my outlook. You DID find a number of good looking cars; thanks for that!

I don't think "narrow minded" describes me. I like all of that stuff too, although the percentage of rat rods that appeal to me is fairly small. My complaint is with cars that are just crappy looking, cars whose builders don't seem to have any taste OR a sense of how things were done in the past.

    (1) It's a show I've actually attended and (2) it was just covered on the HAMB. I agree that there are dumb cars in every show.

Agreed. It's kinda like guys in Germany who play Cowboys and Indians; it's a revisionist view of history.

Once more: I'm not condemning primer, or misguided interpretations of what used to be. I AM lamenting the percentage of shitboxes that are being shown today. OK, I'm done.

NOW, I get it! I knew those names sounded familiar...

    Damn, that's funny!
I'm never going to be able to look at unity spots again without laughing...

    Oooh! Oooh! :D :D :D :D :D

  13. I got lucky I guess! The gear change, and new driveshaft was the big difference. 2200rpm's on the frwy instead of 4400 is WAY better!!!

  14. Bob, what ratio did you change to?

  15. I now have 3.16's. I might still change to 3.01. My engine is old and tired,so maybe it will last longer now.

  18. Maybe the cut off age for the OFC should be that you actually watched "Car 54 Where Are You" before it went to re-runs. :D

I'm new here, so I probably shouldn't say anything, BUT....

I, personally, could care less about the "show" and "contest" aspect of all this. I think it's cool to just hang out and see all these old cars and the time and creativity that people put into them. People can see the difference between true craftsmanship and somebody's hacked up backyard attempt. No need to feel threatened by it nor insulted. But, I still think it's cool that they have the balls to show it off.

I don't see any reason to walk around and say "Would I trade my car for that one?" This just comment just sounds a bit pompous.

    My two cents.

Whether you like them or not, it seems they are here to stay. Bob said it right when he stated that these shows have something for everyone. Twenty years ago, the old timers were worried about who was going to carry the torch when they passed it on. Well, I don't think there is anything more to worry about. Hot Rodding is carrying on, but with a different perspective from a different generation. I for one am not crazy over a lot of what I see, but at least there is something to see!

Yeah, and then it gets locked down. But really- I know Tony- like him and his cars, but not seeing how he saw "no cars of interest". Not really a debate- his opinion and can't make him like cars he's not into. I try to NEVER talk down a particular car in a forum or publicly because it's ALWAYS related to someone you know- or someone reading or listening to you. I have gone to many hundreds of events at this point- looked at thousands and thousands of cars- but ones that REALLY got me excited- probably less than 1%- but that's MY opinion. Tons of great cars- many I put in magazines and wrote about- but we all have separate taste and I don't see why that needs to be pointed out and/or debated.

I am still de-toxing from the 'streetrod' '90's. I learned to look past the 'shit box' mentality. No matter how tasteless, their on the road, not crushed and headed to Asia.

Judging from the number of threads on this event, most of them with many pictures, I have to say yes it does represent a lot of HAMBers taste. Many readers of these threads have left positive remarks. Looked like there were some very fine cars IMO like Evils coupe, Sloppy Seconds coupe. I dont think anyone would like all the cars at any show. I dont care for rust either.

  26. I know Tony pretty well,Jim. I have respect for his tastes and would expect him to have high standards. I don't care for the rusty crap either. But I do like most of the cars that attend the Primer Nats, but mostly it's because almost all of my friends that I have met since joining the HAMB,like and go to this show.

    PS- DJR13,50Fraud is NOT pompas!!!

There is a difference between "police car spots" and appletons on a custom. You can count the number of famous 40's/50's customs that had regular (not deep appletons) spots on one hand, that has lost a few fingers in an accident.

Actually, the Hirohata Merc had Appleton 552 spots :)

Man, in the pics I saw a blind-folded drunk guy would have a hard time NOT bumping into a car I consider pretty nice and worthy of being in a magazine (and I DON'T mean OSR or Rebel Rodz). I'm missing it on this one- no need to appologize for the cars at that event- saw a lot more I'd like to look at than what showed up at the Orange County Cruise.

I was there and one of my old cars was there the red 40 Willys coupe, I have been going for the last four years and I'm seeing more hot rods in the show. I think having a deversified selection of different cars is good for the car kulture. I don't have a "rat rod / period perfect" car but I do enjoy all the cars there as well as the girls dressed as they did in the fifties. I saw alott of people I know there and they all didn't bring there cars, so just enjoy the shows, cars, and people.
