We have a 32 Ford under construction. We have moved the rear end back to visually center it in the rear fenders. Previously we moved the motor back 1" to clear an electric fan. Our problem is that the net result to the driveshaft is that it is too long. We have only 1/4" slip yoke travel, rather than the normal 3/4". Rather than shorten the driveshaft, do they make a shorter pinion yoke for the 9" Ford differential. Ours is approximately 3 1/8 from the split of the universal to the front of the external slinger. Is there a shorter one available? If not a shorter pinion yoke, what about a shorter driveshaft transmission slip yoke for the 350 turbo? And what kind of day are you having?
Typically slip yokes are available in several different lengths. Check with places online like speedwaymotors, summit, etc or call your local driveline shop. Just having the driveshaft shortened is really the easiest way to go however.
You already have the shortest pinion yoke available. Tranny yokes? If your slip yoke measures 5 1/2" from tip of snout to center of the cap, there is only one yoke available to help. It doesn't have the 1/2" shoulder behind the snout and measures 4 7/8 to 5 1/8 tip to center. Application? Mid '60 Chevelles and Novas. I have two very average used pieces, and would advise having your driveshaft shortened and rebalanced. DO NOT cut off the end of your existing slip yoke. Day? 199 degrees or mph, not sure which.
