Or am I just getting the flu? I feel like ****, I skipped out on moon eyes today, not pleased about that. I was replacing one of these yesterday, (from the top, thank guinness not from the bottom) and it was stuck to the pipe, and I started tearinmg it apart with a screwdriver. **** was greyish white and flecked everywhere and made a mess. By the time the lightbulb came on, It was pretty much removed. Duh. Now I think I've got like bronchitis or something. The new ones look similar... At least I'll be quitting smoking NOW, as opposed to New Years... and I JUST bought a new carton.
<img src=http://www.somethingawful.com/features/childrensbooks/TheZenPsycho_grover.jpg> Nice knowin' ya!!! (Seriously, though...I think you'll be okay...they stopped using asbestos and switched to mule dung a few years ago...no worries!!!)
OMFG HACK! You're trying to finish me off, I nearly blacked out from laughing so damn much! Mule Dung, eh? MMMMmmm.
There are a few (2 or 3 I think) different types of asbestos, only one of them is bad for your lungs. It doesn't really make you ill, the fibers are hook shaped and go IN your lungs very easily, but once they are in, they don't come out without hooking onto stuff and tearing it up. Different types of asbestos are still used in brake pads.
bro, you would have to have long term exposure to high quan***ies of asbestos to get even the slightest inklings of the effects of it, one exhaust donut would definitely not make you sick, **** it up *****boy, you got the flu, and it ****s, I had it all last week............. Skip
OK asbestos experts, I'm hijacking this post for a minute. In the barn I'm going to be working in I found about 4 boxes of the vinyl-asbestos tile they used to use in grocery stores, it's green and I was going to use it to cover the wooden workbenches in the barn. is this made with the dangerous hooked-shaped ****?
That's up to you, for the most part, it is asbestos insulation that caused all the problems with people's lungs, I've had 3 OSHA seminars on this **** as I tend to deal with it quite a bit in my job. The floor tiles aren't high on the list of exposure since they don't normally tend to deteriorate and become airborne, I'd use em, the price sounds right............... Skip If anyone ever runs across asbestos insulation and you need to remove it, soak it liberally with a sugar/water mixture, wear some gloves, a long sleeve shirt and a Micheal Jackson/SARS mask, dispose of it properly ( by hiding it under your normal trash ) no worries.
Here's a good story on the asbestos deal...late eighties I worked for a summer in a plant that rebuilt clutch discs..it was so damn hot there you couldn't wear a mask, you'd suffocate. The way the company got around any problems was we didn't work for them...on the books we were private contractors...they sold a barrel of discs to us, we performed our service, and sold the barrel back...the old guy that owned it said he'd been working with clutches and brakes since the '40s and it had never hurt him...wonder if he's still alive? Brian
4t6, the short answer is that if you don't saw or drill those tiles they can't hurt you. i'm sure there's an industrial hygienist on here that could give you a 6 page answer that would explain it better. anyway, if you don't make it into dust you're ok. if it's not floating in the air you can't breathe it. if you can't breathe it then it can't hurt you. and the exhaust donuts haven't had asbestos in them for almost 30 yars.
