Hot Rods Do we ever grow up & learn?

Hey Chris, it's my first car. Had it since '76. Been off the road, more than on. If it rolls again in the spring, I'll drive it up.
Noise goes away when clutch is pushed in. Kind crunchy when out. That says trans to me.

 

Im almost 70 and have a few fast things.
I love it when a ricer gets next to me and my wife says no , don,t you do it.
Then she won't talk to me for a few days.

 

My only question is, "did you really think a 1939 Henry ****** would take one reverse burnout"? I have several and I'm absolutely positive that I can push the cluster out the bottom at any time. The difficulty of changing the ****** in an enclosed driveshaft car prevents me from doing burnouts period.

 

Well you are doing better than me I am still working on my first car I bought in '74 and have never driven it. I would say you should never do a reverse burn, reverse gears have never been very tough in anything I have ever seen.

 

Wade Hayes sang about this 15 or so years back: "I'm old enough to know better but still too young to care."

thats a GM 14 bolt 10.5 carrier out of my one ton . got pissed and left 2 50' 12" wide black marks on the drive at work and when the speed on the wheels came up it make a loud crunch sound .. no more G-80s carriers , now it has a Yukon carrier .

 

I finally got to drive my V8 Corvair ( OT ). My buddy who helped me build it said don't jump on it until you know how everything is working. At 67 you would think I know better.............NO I jumped on it.....everything was fine..........for about 1 or 1 1/2 seconds..........then the axle said goodbye

 

... but you gotta admit: You know IMMEDIATELY that you screwed up, when you hear that " calonka-calonka-calonka"-sound.....

 

oh that tantrum cost me $1250 in parts ... but it gave me a excuse to put disc brakes on the back end , and several people will not race me street or track .. its a 7000 pound truck with a stock 454 Honest!!!

 

or the weird Bang !! sound steel or cast iron makes when it breaks ... and every hotrodder has heard it time or too .

 

The minute you talk about growing up and making good decisions, you take all the fun out of hot rodding.

 

I,am 76 going on 16. Last watch me earned me a complete front end ff\after I cleaned out two ditches---climed a 15ft bank---crossed the road twice and t-boned a pine tree. Do we ever grow up or mature I will when they put me 6ft under. Till then the next time you here me say HEY GUYS WATCH THIS you better move or get out of the way

 

I'm 68 wife tells everyone its my second child hood I say like hell I haven't grown out of the first one yet.

 

A few birthdays back my kids gave me a card that said "Here's to the guy who refuses to grow up before his children do". I think they're on to something.....

Years ago, I was out riding around with a friend of mine in a pretty rump rump (it ran tens) street car that broke drivetrain parts on occasion. So, at one point, he whacks the throttle pretty hard from a slow roll, and it starts making this funny "plinkety plink" sound from the rear end...
Him: "oh oh, whats that?
Me: "I don't know, do you think its ring and pinion, or u-joint?"
Him: "Dunno, what do you think?"
Me, half joking: "I dunno, hit it again, and see what happens..."
WHAAA! CLUNK! BANG!GRRUUUUNCH!CLUNK!GRRUUUUNCH!CLUNK!GRRUUUUNCH!CLUNK!GRRUUUUNCH!
Me: "nope, definitely ring and pinion..."

 

Sometimes the right foot takes over the body Thats when the fun starts.

 

And more importantly, the brain...

 

I will be 68 years young in January, the Deuce roadster, almost 4 years completed, is showing 22K, and we both refuse to grow up. I have grown OUT, but not up. There are only so many summers left, and I intend to cruise 'till I'm bruised. We got started late in life, but our trips to California just whetted our appe***e for MORE road trips to wherever. If you have one, drive it like it's stolen.

Wow Gene, that was helpful(sarcastic font here would be nice). Obviously, I wasn't thinking. Yes, I know they are weak. No, I wasn't a teenager when they were new like you probably were. I'm just a boy of 52. Anyway, here's a shot of what I accomplished on the shop floor. Not sure what the inside of the trans looks like yet. Obviously, not worth the time & cost. Lesson learned...maybe

 

Man, I would put some sealer over those skid marks to preserve them! Definitely worth it. Bad ideas always make good stories.

 

On the model A no I checked that but the radius arms split like over ripe tomatos and the rear pinion angle tiped up and the carnage began. So I know I need some kind of torque arm or something to control the torque after doing away with the torque tube driveline.yruhot.

 

There good at that. Mine likes the cruise nights and car shows but absolutely hates the drags. So I go with my son and nothing is said. But when I get home and I say nothing about how the evening went, She'll let out a little well...... How did you do.lol. Shes afraid I'll get hurt out there, thats all. But all in all I'm lucky to have her and she really gets me, thank God, Shes number three.lol. Finally got a keeper.yruhot

 

I don't think you will ever mature to the point you don't nail it once in awhile if you're a true hotrodder, it's incurable.
I turned 78 yesterday and spent this afternoon putting the finishing touches on a line loc installation so it will be easier to keep my roadster in place at the line at the drags.
People look at me and then at the roadster and say "you actually RACE that car?" My answer? "It's a hot rod!"
