I sold my house and started packing up the house and the shop...ugh. Why is it in our nature to collect stuff? It has been 7 years since I bought this house and I swore never to collect as much stuff this time. My family swore to never help move me again. We'll see if they really mean it. [IMG]

Am I turning into one of those old guys that says he is gonna use this stuff some day? Man.....back to the shop. [IMG]

Consider yourself lucky to have the opportunity, and the means,to collect all that stuff.
    Good health,a steady job,family,friends,toys,home.

Shouldn't have to look too hard to find someone, less fortunate, who would trade places with you.

I've been in my house 8 years and swore after the last move I'd never move again. I have alot more stuff than I had then too. I still plan on never moving.

I have been going thru my stuff which is why I have been trying to sell some of it. We are getting ready to move in the next few months and the more spare you get the more you stash away... It is a sickness because I was at the swap last weekend and I would see stuff I did not need but wanted because it was cool or would be good garage wall art.. Held my ground and bought nothing but man I wanted to...

I like to surround myself with things that I think are neat and or beautiful. I enjoy them today. Tomorrow may never come. I'm just a trustee for their safe keeping.

My grandparents are in the middle of moving after being in the same house for 31 yrs, taken like 5 loads of garbage to the dump, and 1 to the steel recyclers. Unbelievable amount of stuff, but I cashed in on some sweet asp old tools, a bunch of old taillight lenses, some kick**** guages and some strange Hays thing. There were like 25 windows hidden up in the rafters, and he had no idea why he had been holdin onto them for sooooooo long. For some reason he even had about 80 used sparkplugs, all in boxes, strange, but I guess thats the joy of having a garage.

When I moved into our NEW house and shop almost 10 years ago it took 52 short box pickup trips to get all of my STUFF out here. That didn't include the 2 ton truck and forktruck to move my machinery. When I started cleaning ou the old shop there were 3 trips to the scrap yard with old blocks, cranks, heads, etc. I couldn't believe how much I had managed to accumulate in 25 years.
I think if I ever move again I'll just set fire to the place, call the insurance man to drop off the check and start over somewhere else.

I know the utter frustration you are going through. Just the thought of moving gives me the heebie-jeebies bad. I have been in my present house for nearly 30 years and I have got STUFF that no normal human could possibly need or want. But, I've got it and for some reason I just had to have it. Right now, I have****embled my die cast collection ands it is piled three feet high on and around my pool table. Most of the cars are still in their boxes-but I had to have them! Yep, couldn't live without them. Oh yeah, the pool table is a Brunswick Balke Collender which is probably 100 years old and, you guessed it, I had to have that too. I haven't played pool on it in years so I'm probably going to sell it. After I get rid of all the die cast stuff which is piled on it! And that is just the house stuff. The garage stuff is beyond out of control. AAAAAAAARGH! My name is John and I'm a stuffaholic. I need help.

Hey Root.....I was doing a great job of getting rid of stuff. I hit the last swapmeet with a full load in the Rocky Goodtime van [tm] and a full pickup box trailer behind. I went home with an empty van and no trailer. After that, I was able to walk through my storage garage again...for about 2 weeks. Guys at work were cleaning out their garages and gave me lotsa cool stuff, including a nice 12 bolt rear end

[that leaked 90 weight all over my floor and my genuine plastic Christmas tree fell over in it. I wonder if Mrs Rocky will notice the smell next Christmas.]

..........and a bunch of other suff and parts to sell at the next swap meet....I can't stop either!!!!!!!!Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........

I hear ya...I just rented a storage garage so that I could free up enough space in my garage to do some work. It's a****** when you have to move a ton of***** out of the way just to get to the shelves on the other side of the garage. One of these days I'm going to cash in on this overpriced house in SoCal and buy an estate in the sticks...
To answer your question though...yup, we need it! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

  22. Root...being the swell guy that I am, I'm willing to come up there and load that Chevy wagon full of bicycles and stuff and bring it all down here so that you don't have to deal with it any more! [IMG] No need to thank me...just tell me when to be there.

  23. Wadda ya mean?I would hate for all of us to be on a bopard where we discussed the daily paper-work and an occasional sports win or loss! [IMG]
STUFF!-Its what seperates us from average mortal man!we crave it- we need it we must have it- then when we get it we must have more and so on.....Yes I have some stuff- but I must not have too much?????Surely NOT![there are some buildings here in town left I can buy to fill up with SOME MORE!!!!
THE ANSWER IS YES!- WE NEED IT. [IMG]

  27. My dad passed away nine and a half years ago and my mom is finally ready to move. He had about thirty years of accumulated car stuff... and a lot of it I may never use... but it sure is fun to look at!

i come from a long line of packrats, and all of the packratting genes have accumulated in me like ddt through the food chain. in just 4 or so short years since i've actively been into old cars i've done alright. alot of my stuff actually serves to remind me of the time of my life that it came from, makes remembering it better. the stuff too old for me to remember gives me a taste of how it was, adds flavor to history. it's one thing to read about WWII or something, but it makes it more tangible when you can go out and unload the M1 with all the appropriate equipment and uniform on, etc! as long as it has meaning to me, i keep it. doodles friends of mine did in middle school, movie stubs,*****, i keep it all and i am sure my car stuff will grow like rusty fungus to encompass and overtake my garage. when i look at anything i have saved, it's like a real subtle high, man. take you back to your earlier days, or gives you a glimpse of what used to be.

  30. <font color="red"> My dad is 74 .....when we cleaned out his garage 2 years ago we took 12 trips to the dump, every body took a truck load home and the garage was still 1/2 full.......he had boxes that said things like fith wheel trailer parts(he got rid of the fith wheel 10 yrs earlier)...parts for the truck(I bought the truck off him 15 yrs ago and sold it 1yr later)...craftsman mower(yes this box was a craftsman mower but it hadn't seen gas in 2 decades or been in one oeice since then either!)....I swear if wasn't high on pain pills from his back surgery we copuldn't have got rid of half the*****!
