  1. I'm a driver. I guess that's part of why this crew is intimidating.. I'm a pretty damn good driver and always hav been, but only fair to middling at mechanicing.

  2. Obviously

Mostly garage time as long as I am building things-not fixing OT POSs.

  4. I have always enjoyed the build but there is a end result and driving is the icing on the cake.

Once the car has been fired up and is a driver if it is lacks the interior it seems to stay that way,,that is the reason why Brenda's wagon was completely finished before I ever cranked it. HRP

Got to go with dad on this one, especially as I get older and my back and hands and elbows start to wear out.

Yea I've always enjoyed in the sanctuary of working in your garage, in your own world. Driving is also nice, hearing it run, enjoying a smooth ride and people waving appreciating seeing another old car around. Also meeting and talking to other rodders, hearing their stories, tips, and advice. kind of a win-win thing.

I hate to admit it, but contrary to the earlier post - "I've never been out driving and thought, I wish I was home working"......well, I've never been out driving and NOT thought, I wish I was home working on something.......

    I have a problem, I big problem.

  9. Great Question!
When I go to the shows in the U.S. , American hot rodders always come up to me and say, "jeez you Canadians sure build some killers rides!" When I ask why they think that is, they always contribute that to our long cold winters. So instead of cruising we're working on & detailing our hot rods. There is alot of truth in that statement!;)
I think most people on this site, truely enjoy the building & working on their old vehicles. Cruising is fun, but there is no better feeling then when someone comes up to you and asks, did you build that?:D

rather work on them/build them than drive them--too many idiots on the road. Get really bored when there isn't a project in the garage. Looking for another 40 cpe project.

I like to build them. I enjoy driving also, but it needs to have a purpose and not end up at a car show. I hate car show's. We did a cruise across Iowa with friends and that was the most fun out of the shop I've had with an old car.

    Good thread!---Great answers!

After building 6 years, I couldn't wait to put my skills to the test.
Started driving my roadster in 1968, now have 300,000 happy line chasing miles.
Upgrade every 10 years.---No more since 1996, too old at 81.

  19. Says the guy on Vancouver Island:rolleyes::D.

I have never driven mine so I guess I have to say the build part so far. LOL

  20. I love building more than anything. I enjoy occasional troubleshooting of problems once they are built, but mostly have my regular mechanic do routine maintenance. I like driving around locally and on trips. ...but mostly I want to be in my shop getting the current project done.

  22. I think with me it is about 50/50...although it sometimes seems like I never get 'em done.
It's fun to go to cruise-ins, my wife drives the '41 Merc convert and I take the '36 coupe...Too much fun!

Driving is definitely much easier, but I go into withdrawals if I haven't done some wrench turning for awhile!

Driving is the easy part, building them takes time and lets me use my skills and brain.

Definitely driving them... I like driving in general. I don't care if it's a road trip in my modern daily, or my harley, or a dirt bike, or hell I can even have fun on my riding lawnmower from time to time.... Definitely driving.

  27. OK, OK, K13, I know it's not like Alberta, but we do get (mild) winter on Vancouver Island!;)
You did notice the picture i posted was on the Malahat section of the Island Hwy just north of Victoria, B.C.

fucks sake if its not all about driving them whats it all about.ive got local guys here who wont take their cars out in the wet, but gota small few who drive, drive hard in all weather.they are the people i identify with.they are the guys who do all the miles and the people who can fix things when they go wrong.the others can kiss my ass

p.s.if u are working on it all the time you must be doing poor quality work

I am still working on mine in the garage...but with all the junk put out by suppliers these days....working on anymore cars is no longer an option.

I feel for the guys just now starting a complete re-do....need to invest in China now I guess....

Shoes, zippers, belts, etc last about 2-3 months now....car parts do not even fit but if they do by some mistake....they will last at least long enough to get them out of the box.....MAYBE.

But on the postive side....lots of crooks here in America is getting super rich importing this junk.

  30. Anymore, I'd rather drive that work on them. My back is so fucked up that it is downright painful to get under a car, or lean over a fender. Hell, the other day, I was swapping a set four tires and wheels from one truck to/from another and about screamed in pain! I moved the wrong way and then couldn't move, it hurt so friggin' bad! That's why my older son is learning auto mechanics at the local vo-tech. He enjoys working in and around cars. For me, it's just too damn painful to do so and have fun doing it. I do it out of necessity versus desire these days.

So, yeah, I'd rather drive. Any day!
