I know there inanimate objects but I cant help myself from talking to them, And I know they have no soul like a human,... but they seem to have a individual personality that is unique to them,..... when my kids were little they would laugh and giggle when I would talk to a car as I was working on it,..

The last time I seen Frank Mack's roadster at the 50th Detroit Autorama, I gave her a message from Frank ( Frank couldn't make it he was too sick, actually on his death bed ) did it hear me?, no, but it actually choked me up when I told her why Frank wasn't there himself, and that they would never be together again. kind of like telling Micky Mouse about Walt Disney I guess.
    ( Wow !,... did that sound weird,....)

When ever I buy a new project I stand in front and say "SHOW ME" like Arnie. Haven't found one yet that fixes itself though.

  5. Yeah I hear you guys. Funny how every time I give her a good clean up before a cruise or a show, she just gets a little frisky and goes like hell.As far as the oil leaks......well that`s just a flathead for you....besides it`s free undercoating..TBJ

I used to plead with mine to get me home...especially from the Roundup...when I had a very finicky 223 and Fordomatic under the hood. She always got me home, but the last time it was only using 4 of the 6 cylinders! When we limped into the garage that night, I actually promised her (out loud) that I would get her a better engine/tranny combo. A year later and with a HO302 and AOD, I've actually asker her a few times after a drive, "Now, isn't that better?". Last night, when I installed the new smoothies, wide whites, baby moons and shocks, I patted her on the fender when I went inside and said "Lookin' good, baby." Thankfully, my wife does the same thing with the car, so she doesn't think I'm completely insane!

Yesterday trying to correct the neutral safety switch. I told her she was being a pain in the butt cause I've been thinking about trading her. After I explained I wouldn't make the trade she fell into place.

I talk to my buick all the time.

It was my first car at 15 I am now 21 and we have gotten too know eachother really well (she got jealous when I was in highschool though, especially prom night).

Well when all my freinds come over to help me work on my buick, they drive their hot rods or customs, and I can just tell that she is sad. so I tell her one day, she'll be back on the road and I tell her all the time to get ready for the trip to Paso Maria this year.

Does she listen? I don't really know!

All my rides have names, except my latest daily (I just haven't found the right name yet). And I agree with most of those who posted - they just seem to respond when they know who you are talking to!

"Fred," my '89 Chevy with over 290K on it, never, ever, put me on the side of the road, and I believe that is only because I harnessed the personality of the ride. Regardless of being inanimate or not, each and every vehicle develops some sort of personality. Christening a vehicle with a name also helps it know who you are cussing at as well!

  12. There's no problem with that, Bluto...

    unless you start answering:eek:

Hope all is well in your neck of Europe, Bill

On Sunday mornings, I go up to my job, where I'm building her. There's nothing like opening the rollup doors and seeing her sitting there. Just waiting to be legal and enjoy a long drive. I tell her it won't be too much longer, then I find something on her to tinker with. My name for her is Miss behavin' and I'm glad she's waiting for the ricer up the street to live out her namesake.:D

When I took a wrong turn in Indy once and ended up in one real bad neighborhood at night i said to my 37 GMC, "truck don't fail me now". I figured if she did they might never find my body or her.

    Sometimes I plede.
    Sometimes I talk.
    Sometimes I swear.
    Sometimes I thank it.
    Sometimes I lie to it.
    Sometimes I promise it.
Sometimes I admire it and tell it how great it looks.
Sometimes I critize it and tell it how its a pile of junk.
    Sometimes I threaten it.

My cars (and trucks) and I have a mutual understanding of each other. I try to keep them in good repair and expect them to work when I need them. I'm not very tollerant of break downs. Allowances are made for poor maintenance, unusual cercomstances, and failed parts from abuse or neglect, but I really hate walking. They simply work, or get me someplace repairs can be made, or the 2nd or 3rd breakdown they are gone.

My son is growing a relationship with his cars also. When he is working on them at my place he tells them "We are at a welding shop, you will cooperate or we have things here to make you cooperate." Its amazing how quickly they fall into place when you tell them the facts. Gene
