Do you feel you have "vision" when it comes to your car?

You're both right. But he is trying to do you a favor, and maybe protect himself from complaints down the road. But if you like white, by all means...

Ditto! And maybe too much TV in general.

Just a little comment on magic erasers, I just had a 10 year old try to wash off the black on face from a baseball game (not my boy or idea) and scratched the **** out of his face. The marks have been there for a couple days. I don't know what that will do to seats. But it may be something to think about.

It all hinges on the word almost. If he's actually refusing, go to someone else. If he isn't, hear what he's saying, think about it, make your decision, have him do that.

It may be that he can point things out that you haven't considered - so let him - but only you know how you intend to use the car, how important various factors are to you, how far you're willing to inconvenience yourself, and what sort of risks you're willing to take.

I ***ume that that's what you mean by "vision"? It could be that the design act that determines whether this or that suits the car is yours alone. Nothing wrong with that: your car. I rather like the alternative way, giving others a fairly free hand within a delineated space (e.g. the upholstery), but that involves a lot of back-and-forth, brainstorming, image-hunting, sketch/scribble sessions to get the other to understand what the design is all about. And not everyone can do that sort of interaction and do the quality of work you want.

I went to his shop today and we chatted about it. He's going to do it just the way I'd planned. He has the seats and door panels, and he's finishing up another car while he gets those done. I'll be dropping off the car at the end of the month, and he said about two weeks from that point to finish. Thanks for the input, the tips about new jeans and magic erasers, and the comments on the car. I'll get more pics up soon.

Dude what ever you do, do not make that interior gray! Gray is the worst color for an interior, so boring.
My motorbikes seat is upholstered with white lether, it keeps clean if you just take a good care of it and use the right products.

Should have my truck by this weekend and have it rolled into our shop in the next few weeks, I actually had a dream about the paint scheme and exactly what I want to do with it, inside and out...lord help whoever tells me what I can and cannot do with MY truck...if this gentleman is not willing to listen to what his customer wants he needs to learn a few things about running a business. Giving a customer suggestions due to his "experience" is one thing, flat out refusing to do it is just a fast way for him to lose business. I would honestly look for someone else to do the work. A lot of people need the work out there and if you wanted to paint it snot green with a hot pink interior I'm sure you can find someone to do it...just my $.02...

The upholsterer needs to do what he's asked and let it go at that. I had a guy object to what I wanted in my '55 Chevy but I told him to do it or I'd go elsewhere---when it was installed he liked it. Their experience doesn't always mean that much---

It looks like it was worked out between the two parties involved but...

    I can see both sides.
As the customer I surely would want it my way, why wouldn't I?

As the business man, I won't always do what a customer wants, and will even turn work away if I think it will take away from the level of quality or uniqueness of what I do and how I do it. If I am established and known for doing something a certain way, and people have come to expect or appreciate what I do, then I won't do something that doesn't live up to my standards. I won't put my name on something that is questionable.

I'm not saying that this happened in this situation, but like I said I can see both sides. Money doesn't buy everything.
