Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tman, Nov 2, 2010.

  1. That is, a board or wall to keep ideas and inspiration posted? Mine is full of car, food and house inspiration..

I cover the wall next to my project top to bottom with parts and strange stuff. It gets me into the build and some of it makes it on the car. When the car is done the wall goes to the swapmeet. And I start fresh.

I have the postcard from that one, and this year was the first time I've ever gone. Weird.

  13. I wrote on my Falcon with pencil. The paint is chalky.

Most of my inspirational pictures, ideas and such emanate from the cornputer, so my "idea boards" are Excel spreadsheets.

I have a few favorite cars posted on one wall, but my idea board is in the form of an old 10' green chalk board out of a school. I used to get calls all the time from buddies bogged down in a project, "what do I do next?" :( "Well, firt you need a chalk board or white board..." Now I'm famous in my circle for sketches and formulas and lists.

That's where my ideas play out.

But I also use one in CAD a lot, too... :)

  17. ive got a journal. i write down ideas, draw sketches, list inspirational cars and page numbers from magazines and books i have to refer to. pricings of parts ive been chasing, contacts, etc. im always pulling ideas from here on the hamb and they go into my journal for my build.

  18. I like the chalkboard idea. Might add something like that to the back of my barn doors when I finish them off.

And damn, my place really looks a lot messier than it really is!

i usually do. but i have been bad about creating one in the new space. thanks for the inspiration again, trent.

in my studio, i try to only have a few things on the wall directly related to the piece i am making that moment. too many images clutter my imagination. so my studio is surprisingly sterile.

i see you have a nice collection of suspension fork taxidermy too.

  20. You hear 'em too?
Most of mine are blowing around in tornado in my noggin:D. Sometimes I catch them and but them on a sketch pad or in Autocad.

  21. I am just the opposite. I have a TON of stuff on that board. It is like my safe deposit box!

Magazine clippings for house and car
    Barn door ideas
    Thom Taylor line drawing
Photocopies of B***' coupe profile with notes on 32 frame
Pepper Sauce recipe I intend to go into production with:rolleyes:
Tag off my bandsaw blade so I know what to re-order
Arming lanyard from a bomb dropped over Sarajevo by a B1
Original notes and criteria for the Tudor

And yes, Fork Taxidermy, there are 3 more not visible. I still need a Girvin and an AMP to round it out!

My shop goes from really clean to a disaster. That bench to the left is where I sit and read and do paperwork (ie drink beer). It is always a wreck. Right now it is covered with sketchbooks, a stack of 60s Mechanics Ill., a few 50s HRMs, lates issue of Muzzleloader, HotRod Annual #2 and lots of hardware, screws etc. that have not found a home.

  22. I have a 3 ring binder with clear sleeves...when I see something in a mag that I like, I tear it out and file it. My dividers are...'54 Chevy Custom, '55 G***er, '28-'34 Hot Rod, Paint, Interior, and Engines. It's fun to look through it everyone once in a while and see if my taste has changed.

  23. For you, pictures from July, it is a roller now. Just noticed how much the shop has changed. A lot of that clutter behind the car is gone now and I hav two rows of parts shelving to organize all the parts for the car in one corner.

I keep a few things in a folder, printed matter from the HAMB, magazines, paint colors, etc... nothing real organized.

Tman: Next time you make a batch of pepper sauce, send me a little! :)

I carry a small sketch book and a small note pad everywhere I go. When an idea pops into my head I sketch or write it down. Also have a chalk board and tack board in both shops to doddle on.

I like that idea thanks ! What do you have for food inspiration ? The one thing that my son and I do is write things on my garage that we will "Never" do again .Sell at toy shows , Reroof a house .And my son saus he hates Gaskets .We date and sign them also !

  28. I keep three ring binders full of photos, sketches, web site downloads on cars, furniture, home improvements, dream houses, guitars and more. It's one reason I don't need to subcribe to print magazines anymore - I can compile and update interest-specific binders less expensively. It's a great way to organize and track individual projects too.

LOL....me too, with a kid on the way. It's like Brewster's Millions right now, trying to buy up everything I need before D-Day. Not that I have lots of cash, but it will definitely be evident as to the lack thereof once the chi'ren is here.

Since I work on the computer all day, all of my inspiration is there and in my sketchbook at my desk. NO garage to speak of...which is lame.
