Back in the seventies, at a car show I saw a very pretty Chevy II drag car. It was black, with I think gold writing on the side. It had a straight six and iirc dual quads. I believe it had at least a partial tube frame. I don't know if it was a serious drag car, or really a show car done drag style. It wasn't wild looking, but it looked so fast and light and "all the business", as the Brits say. I don't know what class it would have run in, but it was quite highly modded. The attention to detail was also impressive, lots of handmade brackets and linkages and so on, all very well done. The car looked like it was built by a watchmaker. I don't have any idea how well known this car is. There was an article about it in Hot Rod back then, so that's something. So, anyone have any idea? I should also say it wasn't an old school gasser with the front up in the air, so that's a clue.
Makes me think of Cotton Perry’s Nova, but I think it was red maybe and had three carbs. Memory is bit foggy on hump day though.
Thanks for the info. I can't post pics because I don't know anything about the car so I can't search for it. It wasn't Cotton Perry's car, this car was definitely black. Also, it was much cleaner looking, with just a bit of writing on the door, iirc. That's what made it special, everything was "just so", very clean and detailed and well thought out. I know I have the issue of Hot Rod that it was in. Maybe I'll look for it, but it's a pretty big, time consuming task to look for one article out of several boxes of old magazines.
Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do, and it could be worth the effort I've tried to find photos or info on a '62-'64 Chevy II that a friend had around 1969. It was a lime green, straight axled, 427 powered car that had "Mephistopheles" lettered from front wheel well to rear wheel well. I have no magazine articles to fall back on. This Deuce was from Lemont, Illinois. I apologize of sort of highjacking your thread, but who knows, maybe we'll both get lucky.
