    No. I don't lend anything I can't bear to part with, and a car could lead to parting with more things than just the car.
    It helps to remember that no good deed goes unpunished, and if you save someone you are personally responsible for their sins thereafter, when you turn 'em down.

  2. I only loan or borrow from my dad. You loan to a friend, something happens, you can probably count on not having the friend anymore. Relatives are dicey too - think about how they treated your toys (or whatever else) when you were a kid -

    And the last time I borrowed something, I didn't even leave my friend's property, but I got stuck and ended up having to buy a $150 tire because getting it out put a hole in the sidewall. Which I paid and felt like an *** about because I just plain f'ed up. I just wanted to haul a car from the back lot up to the front for a guy to come get and my friend was out of town on vacation. To top it off, the car I was trying to move that day the idiot who was supposedly buying it is the one who screwed me over for about three months on it, so my friend brought it out for me after he got back from his vacation basically for nothing.

    He's offered to lend me other cars of his before and I won't take 'em, I'd rather buy it outright if I'm going to drive it on the road.

    I think the smartest thing said is if you want to be this guy's buddy. help him get one of his up and running. What's that saying about teaching a man to fish?

    Oh yeah. Years ago this chick wanted to drive my car, I was 19, and I knew something was up with her already (long story), so I figured the chance of a wreck in my '60 Pontiac wasn't worth maybe getting laid.

    Turned out I was right, this "17" year old was actually 14 and had run away from home, so it might have meant legal problems wether she wrecked the car, or she didn't and I screwed her. That group of "friends" I stopped hanging out with not long after that.

    Short list and solid reasoning behind each one on the list.

    The only ones who will drive my coupe when done is;

    My wife (duh!) and she'll prolly only drive it once. She's never driven anything with more then a V6 and this SBC with dual quads and a clutch will surely scare the Hell out of her.

    My brother because he taught me how to drive and has his own hot rod. He knows how to treat them. He's also done a ton of work on my coupe and knows it inside and out.

    My best friend Dave who has helped me work on it more then anyone except maybe my brother. Dave is also a motorcycle instructor and knows more about repsecting the vehicle than most.

    And maybe Earl Shieb, just cuz he's such a swell guy.

    That's it and that's why. If you're not on that list and ask to drive it you'll either get laughed at or *****slapped, depending on how my day is going...

    The only people besides me are my wife who never drives the '33 or '50 and a good friend of mine Mr. Lee who has helped me build both.besides Mr. Lee has 5 cars himself he does'nt have any reason to drive mine,but just in case he has to he has my blessing.
