Hot Rods Do you look to see if people are looking

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by chainsaw, Aug 14, 2019.

  1. Totally unrelated but your story reminded me of this story. Several years ago I had friends of the in-laws go through a T10 trans for me. The father and son are at the shop when I get there. I pay then pick up the trans and carry it to my car while they follow chatting. Car is locked (habit), keys are in pocket so I set the trans down on the hood of my daily :) knowing full well the father is a REAL stickler for cleanliness and treating cars 'right' (car is a Ford Tempo ). I wish I had a camera for the look on the faces those two gave each other :D:D:D:D:D.

I used to take engine blocks to the machine shop if a Ford fest/va. Machinist would just shake his head. A lot of my machine shop work was dropped off after 6pm and got no receipt. I was stuck with that fest/va for a year and a half - I'd wrecked so many cars my insurance agent gave me a very short list of vehicles he could write me a policy for - I had to go find one of them to buy.

My stoplight cred was zero during that time.

I find that a lot of kids like both my 48 Plymouth coupe and my 49 Dodge pickup. They will point them out to their parents.
I get thumbs up all the time, I try to acknowledge them as often as I see them.
The stuff I have may, or may not be cool, but its definitely different then most people are used to seeing. The simple fact they are different then normal attracts attention. Between the truck in the winter, and the coupe in the summer, probably 75% of the driving I do is in an unusual vehicle. People look, and I don't mind, I'm used to it.

As far as the arm out the window, I've spent a lot of time positioning the seat so its comfortable to do. If the weather is good enough to have the window down, you will find my arm leaning on the door under the window opening. It's how I drive. Gene

Nope. I never notice people as I’m busy watching their cars to see which one is going to try and take me out.

Vanity, as the nature of this thread evidences, is not lost on the fairer sex.

I suppose I should elaborate in regards to todays society, by fairer sex I meant women!

All my (and wife's) cars are 'unusual'. But the 'computer mouse cars' still wave, for the most part.

I know they are looking. Im generally looking for those who aren't. I try to acknowledge the waves, and do look for kids. For the most part the Karen's don't care

I get a kick out of the pre school kids that are all fastened together in single file with there caretakers front and back keeping them in line.
Nine times out of ten those little ones will notice old cars with a smile and a wave.
They get a kick out of the ahoooga horn.
