    I hope you're joking...

I've sold overseas and half the time it's way less hassle with the buyer.

I'd say 50% of the parts I sell on ebay go out of the US. I'm one of the few willing to deal with going to the post office and filling out the customs forms. I see it as helping put or keep another cadillac on the road...regardless of where it is! You guys don't have it easy outside the US getting parts.

sent and taken stuff to australia....Those guys have a knack of taking some part we can't get anymore and manufacturing them again so they aren't obsolete anymore..... They still think like we used to think....if you need one; cast it up or machine it and you got one....Hot Rodders are hot rodders the world over.

Perhaps you should begin organising to send all the Triumph, Norton, Matchless, BSA, Vincent, AJS & Velocette motorcycles back to Britain. While you're at it why don't you send all the Ducatis, Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, MV Agustas, Moto Guzzis, Laverdas, etc etc etc back to Italy. Maybe all the McLaren Can Am cars should be shipped back to New Zealand ASAP. The next time the Pebble Beach Concours or Monterey Historics are on, have a quick look and see how many of those cars are not from the US. It works both ways.

A fellow hamber has helped me out with the parts i needed now and cheaper too :D Thank you Dan

  7. I have been selling parts for years on both eBay and the HAMB and have shipped all over the world. I cannot understand why someone would be so much of an a-hole to not ship out of the US. I have questioned sellers before on this and the double shipping costs to ship to Canada. My experience has been in some instances it is actually cheaper to ship here to the frozen north. I agree with the second post and EFEM

You guys will probably flame me. I have traveled outside the US more than most Americans and enjoyed meeting everyone everywhere. However, I have to admit I cringe when I see a great car sold and shipped outside the US. The reason for this is I consider these cars American treasures and its a bit like looting famous paintings or other treasures from another country. When a classic car leaves the US you can pretty much guarantee your grandchildren will never get a chance to see that car again. Unfortunately these cars and trucks get rarer in the US every year.

That said I completely understand the points of view of those who will and will not sell outside the US.

Will you send back all the stuff I want if I do? :) You make a good point. However, as I said they get rarer every year so I just hate to see them go. But when you need the cash you gotta sell to the highest bidder to feed the family.

What we do for folk or businesses that wont ship out of the US, is have them ship the goods to our buddy in the states who will then ship it to NZ for us.

ps: have a pint four us in the Horse and Chains, Bushy High Street. Simonsez and I have been there for a few with Watford Rods :D

You will get this anywhere, and for anything.

But I have been burnt by supposed HAMBers , one guy its nearly been 12 months and I am still waiting on the money to come back, its starting to look like I'm out of my money.

While I really hate losing money, I hate losing faith in HAMBers.

I have bought alot of stuff of the HAMB and have mostly had good experiences. It does sadden me when things don't go to plan as you like to think that we are all here and united because of our passion for older cars.

Langy, first of all, on behalf of all the good people of these United States, I would like to express the sorrow in my heart as a result of hearing your story... We as Americans are bona-fide allies of the United Kingdom, that is common knowledge... My company, Drag Racing Underground, does business with gearheads in England all the time, we even have a video/dvd release titled "From England To Englishtown"... The person who refused to sell you parts due to the fact that you're over in the U.K. is not the typical American, his "prejudice" is nothing short of appalling... I have been to England several times, usually on business with Big Stick, and I have grown to love the people of your shores... I have also been fortunate enough to visit Santa Pod Raceway and North Weald Airfield in England... I had a great time there with your nation's drag racers and drag racing fans--They treated me like a Queen and I was blown away by their hospitality... Please don't let this isolated incident of prejudice sour you on all Americans, I assure you that you were just dealing with "one bad apple" in the bunch of U.S. citizens... As Americans, we are your good neighbors living "just 'cross the pond" and our door is always open to you... As American pop music sensation Donny Osmond would say, "Don't let "one bad apple" spoil your opinion of the whole bunch"... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Here's a pic of an English car. However, you'll probably need to buy the engine for it in the USA..

The guy refusing to sell to you sounds like an idiot and his mindset will be a thing of the past as the world moves closer and closer to a global economy. Sorry to hear you had to deal with someone like that. The way I see it is if he is conducting business like an A-hole would you really want to support him by giving him your money. Poor customer service is why a lot of businesses fail.

C'mon man! North Island, South Island, Stewart Island, West Island.
    Right? :D:eek:

I'm heading over to CH-CH soon, I'll PM you and maybe catch up.

  17. WE could all say 'can we have back the treasures that left our shores ?'
I remember aussie roadsters & tourers going 'stateside'*- swapped for dime- a - dozen tudors & 5 windows.
The world has been 'global' in some sense since 'crazy Henry' Ford.
Or is that 'crazy' in some sense since 'global' Henry Ford ?

    * stateside ( coll. n.)- crappy term invented by Australian 'street rodders'. (orig.- obscure)

At the bottom of the South Island is a wee island, Stewart by name, a bit like our Tassie. Actually one of my wifes ancestors sold Stewart Island some years back to a Pom for Thruppence some axes and blankets, when the government found out the deal was rescinded, the maori kept the dough, axes and blankets. Wonder how mant times they sold it... a nice little earner.;)

In regard to the chaps who won't sell outside the US I too have had my fair share of them. There seem to be two types; those who believe US made parts and cars should remain in the US, and those through a bad experience or two or fear of the unknown decide it's all too hard and the world is just a big scary place.

OK we can't do much about the scared weird little guys.

But the 'leave it where it was made' guys I find a bit rich. I grew up in NZ and watched the country get plundered for old iron by rich yanks. What happened was NZ had huge import duties so old cars were kept on the roads up to the early/mid seventies. A lot if not most were dead original not counting the engine had been replaced four times and the five coats of paint and the custom blankets over the seats, you get the idea. Well they just kept disappearing. And not just the american models, the english models as well were a very popular novelty item with americans.
This has happened to Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, Australia et al.
Man some of you guys will have shootouts at the airport to see who can get to Cuba first when they open up for business. So I say fuk them!

I also say thank you to the HAMB and it's members. The HAMB is a civilising place where car nuts can appreciate the true value of the many cars that form the foundation and the glue that binds us together, and the fellowship that transcends borders. So setting my long held grievence aside, I agree with those who say the global trade in cars is worthy if done for the appreciation and love of cars. For those who care more for the money, you are like the birds and bees distributing seeds and pollen, we can't live without you.:)

  21. Just my opinion and THANKS.. to all the guy on the hamb, ebay, nova site craigslist, ect. ect. who do sell parts to us canadians and all over the world. We appreciate it. I personally have all my parts shipped to and from a u.s. address then cross myself and pick up/drop off at a us shipper they're great too! just to save the extra paperwork involved, and I realized something recently our cars up here genarally seem to rust more, but the engines rears ect are still around, the bodies are around more rust free in certain u.s. areas, but the motors are usually wore out... overbored beyond rebuild. so keep this in mind all that don't sell or go out of your way to help out a fellow rodder not in the 48 you never know when you may be looking for that hard to find block/part in the hands of a out of U.S. guy. Remember not all cars were built in the U.S. ie. Oshawa Ont. I see a lot of rare canadian built cars going stateside too, and ours are documented still from gm doesn't bother me one bit !

I've ebayed and bought stuff states side for coming up 9 years now and have found that most guys will talk to me. My rating at Ebay has become like a badge - showing that I am a genuine buyer and that my dealings are all up front. Sure there are some guys who can't handle the hassles or won't be bothered or what ever. I have to respect their views - no use bitching and moaning as it ain't going to change that person's mind. Many people have said "US Buyers only" however once i make contact and they undersdtand that I am genuine then most times the barriers fall and yes I have some new froiends as a result of good trading. My money is as good as the next guy and some times the credit card is more genuine than a bounced cheque/check
Also interesting to see how many NZers commenting on this - Go the KIWI!!!!

Guys in the U.K. and Sweden and such were building traditional hot rods when we were still building robin-egg-blue and pink smoothed-off p.o.s. Y'all deserve the stuff as much as we do. I'm thinkin' about tryin' to get an Aussie hemi-six. Why not.

PM me - have a good one - Aussie hemi 265 straight six - sitting under the bench that needs to find a good home
Ask and thou shalt receive - or something like that!!!!

  26. I personally know a guy who has sold 3 Deuces to the US. I know there are many more.

On another note, a big thanks to the people and businesses who will post things. I know they are convenient but UPS or Fedex are way too expensive, often their cost is more than the parts!

I remember as a kid goin' 118 in Dad's new '72 265 hemi six aussie Charger. Haulin' thru the cool ranges- misty winter- quiet Sunday 2 lane patch- top. Luxury 770 model ( not as hot as one pictured ). Car was not loud & felt unstressed.

    O.k; Back to the thread..

Hahahaha this shit it just too funny. I've been ripped off 3 times by HAMBers, (over $15K total, a little of which I have got back) if any one shouldn't be trusted its the americans, you can trust us Aussies, just ask us, we'll tell ya. Now where are your women and the beer ??? :)

Anyway be glad we are buying up all your old cars, it saves them from rusting away over there.

Before you go and get all upset, yes Im taking the piss. :)

I am just happy to sell anything to anybody with the money. The hard part with selling complete cars to our friends over seas is that the paperwork needs to be complete and perfect.
