but be the same car and the same owner ...Now I'm not talking just changing the tires and rims I'm talking a complete overhaul perhaps a complete different setup or different paint job or different custom body work , lets see some photos ... thanks
'57 Chev 210 two door...bought it wrecked (front clip) in the mid '70's...made it a nice stocker with all the emblems, door handles, etc, with a six cylinder, drove it everyday...then turned it into a 'kustom' in the late '70's -pearl white paint, flames, white vinyl interior, '54 Chevy grille, chrome reversed wheels, nosed, decked...drove it to the NSRA Tulsa (I think, or was it OKC) and St. Paul Street Machine Nats. In '88, the six was wore out, swapped in a 400" SBC and T400, completely redid the whole car...lots of body mods--molded both bumpers, aluminum grille, changed the taillights, modified the 'fins', frenched the headlights, put in Chevy SS buckets and changed the interior to gray velour, exterior was Dove Gray with asymetrical graphics and American 200S Daisy wheels...sold it in 2000 to a guy that needed it really bad. Post a pic...??? Nope, it wasn't/isn't HAMB friendly and it'll only start a lot of drama...If you want to see pix of it, pull out the coffee table book entitled "Custom Cars & Leadsleds" by Tim Remus, there's nine full color pages on it. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Some of us take pride in our work and our posessions. No pics of mine, if you think junky is cool, I'm not going to waste your time.
About the closest I can come is with my 37 chevy p/u,built it as a some what original with a 57 235 hooked to the original driveline but after 7 years or driving it made a change. Kept the 235 but put a T-5 behind it along with a 8 inch rear, lowered it and put disc brakes up front and modern shocks so I can drive it on the highway now. Other then being lowered about 4 inches all the way around you really cant see what I done to it as I did not touch anything on the body but the interior will be redone in the future and might get lettered like a shop truck.
have a '63 chevy carryall (burb) owned it for over 25 years now... finally stopped it to do a complete overhaul...that was a few years ago,,while getting things together,, found a new project... '48 dodge 4 door choptop.. think it will be first.. sorry,, no pics of burb yet..
I have a 62 Nova convertable that I finished in 93. We moved to rainforest country in 99 and it has had to set out in the elements three of those years after half of our shop collapsed. The rain and snow has taken a toll on it. Now with my new 36 x 72 shop done, it has a dedicated space to sit inside. Havn't started on the redo yet, but I have a few ideas on changing the look and stance. Owned the car since 85.
My '55 Buick Special. Owned it since 79, restored once. It's been parked since about '02. It's now being rodded. I bought a '78 LeSabre that had a '71 455 in it. Stretched the frame, set the 55's body on it. Trying to have it on the street by the end of May. It'll look kinda of stock on the outside, but in a Cadillac color and Ansen Sprints. Interior may only be two seats, a set of vintager SW gauges, and the restored AM Sonomatic radio. Oh yeah, and the tilt column from the '78 too.
I don't have any pictures I owned a 71 Gmc Sprint for 10 years and repainted 3 times .1 st time ,I didn't like the base coat /clearcoat job .2 nd Time it came out great ,3 rd time redid some body work and then I sold it.After converting interior back to some what stock .Everything was stock except for the 66 lemans console + chevelle buckets .
I Took my 48 from a 75.00 running beater to a painted and upholstered rod in three months in 1973 to attend the street rod nationals in Tulsa. sold it in 1973 or 4 and traded back for it about a year later with an ugly red and yellow flamed paint job on it. Most of that came off in a car wash. I primered it and around the same time installed the 283 out of my T bucket. Got in a wreck and ended up replacing the front axle and right front fender. Towed a 16 ft UHaul from Texas to Washington state with it. Tired 283 was replaced with a 350. Top chopped in 1980 and truck subframed. 4 speed swapped for turbo 400 Suicide doors installed during winter of 1981/2. Truck taken apart in about 1986 because of problems with rear suspension. Put back together in Aug 1989 in three week period to attend the Mountain High Nationals in Centralia, wa. Ledsled Event. Used a stock 54 Frame, fronts suspension plus a 250 and rear out of a Nova. Trans was full syncro three speed. That was to go to one event and tear it back apart to redo with a 396. It never got torn back apart and got driven well over 100,000 miles in that state. A full redo is in the works with a bare frame on stands waiting for it's new suspension and a ton of body work in the plans. Engine will be a 292 six dressed out with some good stuff with I'm not sure what trans between it and the disk brake rear that I acquired 20 years ago for it. Wheels will be steel with wide whites and caps of some kind.
going to re-do dads corvette hopfully this winter/spring. he built it in '75 or there about. looking to get some lacquer for the re-do, trying to talk him into urethane single stage. (get about the same results as lacquer but alot tougher) will post some pics when we get rolling.
It's my belief that truly great cars are not built on the first go-around. Usually takes 2-3 iterations to get it right, and that process may involve several owners and several decades. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule, but usually one guy gets it started and makes the car "cool", and the journey begins.......... Just thinkin out loud. Hope this thread brings some cool pics
My coupe was restored in 1979 by my dad with some help from me. In the last 2 years I have rebuilt the whole drive train from brakes to motor to tires. Trying to keep the paint for as long as I can- my dad did the painting
have two that I've done twice--wife's 55 first time in 77 and again in 99 and a 57 BelAir FI car--did 1st time in 76-sold it, bought it back and just finishing it up-55 will stay with us-it's part of the family-both in my album
I finished my '51 F-1 for the first time in 2000, repainted it completely in 2005, rebuilt the rear half in 2006 after getting T-boned, and rebuilt the front half over the winter in 2007 because I was bored. So I supose that makes 3 times in 10 yrs.
