Art & Inspiration Do you read the JalopyJournal Blog?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tman, Jul 21, 2021.

  1. It seems that a lot of the Blog entries go under the radar. Every once in a while I take the time to either scroll through older entries or search the Blog archives. Didn't know you could search? Well, yes you can! Just look for the search box on the right side as you scroll down. There is so much good info hidden in these entries. @Ryan @Jive-Bomber and @J.Ukrop put a lot of effort into these posts. Go digging, I found several I had missed over the last few years.

It's a good question and I'm glad you asked.
I find that so often the ***les provided in the forum posts about the blogs are vague or cryptic. That does not encourage me to look.

    What x38 said.
Given sooo much to read, I little primer would help the article "adhere" to the old eyeballs.

5 days a week! New stuff seems to pop up around 9am central standard. I go directly to the front page to see what’s new!

Joeys stuff has been great lately. Been trying to like and comment on more of the threads for the entry’s so they stay on the first page a little longer

  5. Yes, many of them slide off the front page way too fast.

Very seldom. I'm here for the build threads and technical "how to" threads, both of which seem to appear less and less. No tech week for a long time, as an example.

On desktop, so this is related to that experience...
I have the Forum page as the saved loading page. From there, I log in and look at Alerts and Other Watched threads, then go to General discussion. When I see a thread with a blog post, I have to click on it, then click on the link, then scroll down the blog, then click on the thread link at the bottom and read other posts. It is IMHO annoying to have to keep clicking thru for the same topic. I would ***ume the reason you don't just post the topic (text and pictures) at the start of the thread is for page clicks and advertising. That first thread post with the teaser and a link is, to my thinking the same as the trope about Emergency situation you must know about, more at 11!
I will occasionally go to the blog page and scan the topics, but it has to 'grab' me to go in and read the blog, then go to the thread. I don't read every thread either, ***les are important! The sneak peek function only works from mid-page down, so I don't always check there.
Yes, this is the definition of a First World Problem.meme (a couple clicks), but web pages live and die by optimization and ads. This instance is NOT optimized, it instead is the sidewalk that zig-zags through gr*** and there is a straight, solid foot path worn into the turf.

Ironically, if you read jalopyjournal.com, you'd know we had a tech week just last month. :)

But... to be 100% honest, I write on jalopyjournal.com for me... not for the audience... It's literally my journal.

I participated in that one. Prior to that, it had been a long time since we last had one.

I guess I'll have to have somebody tell me what a blog is ....

Start the day with a hot cup of coffee, then Cars For Sale cl***ifieds (my Bookmark), check my Alerts, hit the Jalopy Journal tab, back to The H.A.M.B, scroll through General Discussion to see what threads that I'm watching have new posts that I didn't get alerted on, see what else is interesting and then another cup of coffee. Ready for my day.

I usually check the blog daily (I'm retired:), some draw my interest, some not so much, I guess the "juice is worth the squeeze" and that is why I probably never miss one.

Mostly the stuff by Ryan or J Ukrop. They seem to hit topics of interest to me frequently.

@rockable I’ve found the best way to find good new content on a regular basis is to first start on like page 12 and work forward.

there’s about 20 threads that have heavy action, mostly conversation, happening and while that’s phenomenal it does keep a lot of great posts from being on the first few pages very long. Partially because they aren’t adding new stuff all the time, and I’d ***ume Partially because clicking “like” on a post doesn’t bump it to the first page. Before a like you’d have to actually
Comment and that would bring it to the front of the line again.

ironically the jalopy journal does post a fair amount of these jewels for us to find!

I make a point of commenting instead of just clicking like to try and put it on the first page and let more eyes see it if I see something cool.

Sometimes I’m purposely going to page 20 and commenting on cool stuff trying to flood page one with different posts.

the second tip is after all that click on posts with cryptic and otherwise bland/ confusing names. It’s shocking how many insane build threads have ***les like “here it is”

any how. I’d recommend every one dip back a dozen pages and start commenting! Want to see more cool stuff in the front? Bump it to the front yourself! I promise it’s in there and more interaction with the original poster - commenting asking questions etc- is going to make them way more likely to engage and continue updating and posting

Yes, sir. I read most of the Jalopy Journal entries and respond if it's something that interests me.

Same, I read for me, I could care less about the author. I read and throughly enjoy the ones that interest me though, yup. The one about Detroit hot rod hooligans and cops was my favorite so far Ryan....

Lets be real here for a moment...

I've been distracted and haven't spent the time I typically do on my features. Life stuff. Dream stuff.

I mean... I still think about hot rods every hour of every day and can't imagine not, but I haven't put in the time that I need to. Instead of being obsessed with writing, I've been obsessed with researching. No idea why...

Joey on the other hand? That dude consistently kills it... His p***ion equals mine and that's rare as ****.

    ***

    Speaking of...
I haven't talked to Joey about this at all... but there will be a time when I have to hang it up. That's decades down the road probably... But, I don't have kids interested in this stuff and no real path to keep TJJ/HAMB around internally when I'm gone.

Joey will be the guy. Wait and see...

I was in the same boat until recently.
My youngest is all about old rides now.
    Don’t know what clicked.
But we go to shows/cruise ins, he works with me on stuff and even his GF helps him work on stuff
Their last date was stripping a ch***is for sand blasting.

Yep. Read it if the ***le, picture or author piques my interest.
