I mean no disrespect to ryan or any of the board moderators for my comments.., I truely appreciate the forum they have built for us here..

in fact.. this post is mostly about an observation I have made of late in reguard to my "hamb patterns"

I am just wondering if, the changes made to the The H.A.M.B. Marketplace have helped or hurt those who are looking for parts? obviously I look at the stuff for sale.. but I have noticed that I seldom look at what stuff other people are looking for..

worse yet, the fairly common chevy parking lights I am looking for have gone unfound.. and my pal eddies taillight lenses have yet to be located..

back when the for sale and wanted parts were together.. I paid more attention to who was looking for what.. (and tried to help out if I had what the hamber was looking for, or knew where said parts might be found)

So.. Does anyone look at the Wanted cl***ifieds?

I don't either. Not very often.

And I have several wanted ads there now. I get hardly any replys.

The old "combined" set-up generated much more action.

I do occasionally. I've posted in the "wanted" ads as well and got responses which led to purchases.
However, I liked the cl***ifieds before better when everything was lumped together.

I don't think I have looked once yet... Probably because I don't have anything anyone would want.

I too meant no disrespect when I expressed my concern right after the change, but what I thought then is pretty much true for me. I never go in there to see who needs what and rarely post there because I don't feel it's too effective. This is the ONLY part of the old board I wish we could go back to.

Sure can tell that it took alot of work to clean up the cl***ifieds..but..
it's now got the feel of shopping in speedway motors instead of you're buddies garage. I love this place because of the grease. I like to look under the bench and into the rafters. I might have something you want that I haven't thought about in twenty years sitting under a pile of parts but I'm interested in getting my build done so I'm hanging out on the "4-sale" department, I don't go into the "wanted" much so I don't know you need that part that I have and would sell to you to help you out if I knew you needed it. If I am able to see what you need while I'm looking for my own stuff it's easier to help each other out.
I appreciate your efforts to try to improve the system but with the 4-sale/wanted seperated I think the original purpose of the board is much less effective.
Ok that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. I know....I'll probably be a FNG by tomorrow....."

    I think it works well.
What bugs me is guys who NEVER post on the this board and just scour the "for sale" section......looking for deals.

I read it all the time, because I have tons of **** and I'm hoping someone has a use for some of it. I try to PM or respond whenever I have anything even remotely close, just in case someone can use it.

I can understand wanting to put them back together, so that shoppers can see what others are looking for. But on the other hand, it's kinda nice having them separate because the two sections move a little slower, not so hard to keep up.

So I could see it either way. I have noticed a lot less ******** going on in the cl***ifieds since the changes started though.

That doesn't bother me at all, in fact, I encourage that, especially when I'm the one selling! If I got some **** to sell, I want it gone, and I'm glad to sell it to whoever is looking. I guess if you're posting stuff up ultra-bargain-HAMB-only priced, then that ****s, but for the most part, all buyers are welcome by Squablow.

  13. Yes I do,

I have alot of stuff that can help others finish their cars.

Squablow.....your a perfect example of a terrific Hamber, you offer a ton up on posts and have had great auctions.(there is one now)
    As do many,many other Hambers.
As for the Want Ads.....its just another place to sell something for those who have a need.

Long long ago, Hemmings Motor News listed Ford Parts for sale. I had to read every ad closely, hoping to find 37 Ford pickup parts. But then they computerized the parts by year. All I had to down skim down to 1937 and I was done. No reason to read the rest of the magazine, digging for my interest. With no reason to carefully read thru most of the magazine, I quit buying it. I've never bought another one since.
No, I dont read the "wanted" ads

I think the old combined section was better, Ive gone to the wanted portion maybe 5 times.

I usually always looked at what folks wanted because sometimes someone would offer them something that would catch my interest.

I have visited the wanted section a few times. If I had more to offer, I would do it more. I like it split because I am either looking to buy or looking to sell, not usually both at the same time and it makes searching much more efficient. I'd be curious to know if those that don't like it have stuff to offer for sale. I mean, if you say "no, I never go there" do you even have stuff to offer? I don't, but still peruse it once in awhile.

If it helps, here are some stats:

The wanted section is the 11th most popular page on The Jalopy Journal hosting 36,503 page views by 19,582 unique visitors last month. By comparison, the for sale section is the 4th most popular page on The Jalopy Journal hosting 242,609 page views by 80,945 unique visitors...

So, the wanted section is getting a ton of traffic... It's just that the for sale section gets an insane amount...

i dont look at it much mostly cause i dont really have anything to sell. when they were together though i read it all, and sometimes even though i didnt have what someone needed i knew someone that could help them. i also found it interesting when someone posted a want to buy for a car, a ton of cars that had never been posted for sale came out of the woodwork. maybe put back together and using the new posting rules it would work well?

Actually, today was the first time...and I didn't go very deep into it.
I've noticed on other boards I go to that the more categories there are, the less time I spend there. The previously mentioned Hemmings example was right on.

If there are a lot of individual categories, you tend to stop into those areas only when you NEED to, or are looking for something specific. When it's all lumped together, you tend to stop and browse through a lot of different stuff because it catches your attention. That's how I ended up buying my '62 Suburban from a guy here; I wasn't looking for one--or any new vehicle for that matter--but the ad caught my eye, and now it's my daily. I only check out the Stovebolt pages' (chevy and GMC trucks) general forum and parts for sale, but they've got categories for gl***, electrical, interior, mechanical, electrical, etc. I just don't want to mouse around that much, and I don't have a SPECIFIC bit of info I'm looking for. If someone posted something like "Changing to one-wire alternator" I'd click and read, because it's good info to have...but I'm not currently looking for that info, so I wouldn't seek it out. The Buick Club of America divided their site into a ton of different categories, and I don't go there any more. It's all about browsing and having a topic catch your interest.
I've read a lot of posts on stuff here that I wouldn't seek out--Hemi info, flat head stuff, etc. If we had individual categories for Flat Head, NailHead, Hemi, etc., there's no way I'd go into each one and see what's posted. I'm not working on my Nail now, so I'm not actively looking for posts on Nailheads. But when I run across one, I read it. If there was a category on the HAMB dedicated to Nailheads only, I wouldn't stop in, because there are two other projects in my shop ahead of my '54 Buick and the 322 I have on the engine stand.

The cl***ifieds are the same way.
What parts do people need? Don't know. And the reason I don't know is because I haven't sat down at my computer and thought "I've got a bunch of stuff to sell--I wonder if anyone needs it? Let me check." I've got a bunch of stuff on shelves out in the shop, and it's stuff I should probably sell, or stuff I'm planning on selling at some point, but right now it's all just sitting there because I've got a lot of other stuff to do. I may have things others are looking for, but I'm not thinking about it, so I'm not checking.
If the WANTEDs were mixed in with the FOR SALEs, I'd stumble on them, and might find that I've got something somebody is looking for.

No, I don't go thru there as often as I prob'ly should. I would like to see them together, but with the same info fields as they are now.

As far as traffic moving faster, if I'm looking for something in particular I use the search function.

Ryan I love the look of the board, but maybe a GIANT search ****on would be good! Maybe then everyone will figure out it's there and what it's for. lmao!!!

    :)

    I like it ...
    Just like it is ...

    Works for me ...
I read both the wanted and the for sale ...
I have placed want ads there ... and recieved NO help ... but it was for hard to find, almost impossible 32 Ford stuff.
I have sold some stuff ... in response to want ads ...
Sold a few parts in the for sale section also ...

It's like most things in life ...
you get out what you put in ...

I rarely read the wanted ads, i do not have much that I want to part with ,but seeing a ad for a part that I have and someone else really needs to get there build finished can motivate me or others to sell them the part. I guess what I am saying is, the more traffic that looks through the wanted ads, the better the chances are of you finding the part that you need to finish your ride. Needless to say I liked the for sale and the wanted ads lumped together.

Thats unreal.. could you imagine 80+,000 members!

they come here because they know where the good stuff is. I dont go on any other forums to sell or buy. I watch what goes on here, and it seems like alot of items find buyers. Not so much complete cars, but parts go quickly.

If more HAMBers read the wanted ads they would seem more "worth it" for the people posting.

We all need to be looking out for our Hamb brothers and sisters.. thats what its all about.

The RSS feed of the cl***ifieds is a beautiful thing. You don't have to keep up with or check in on anything- anything new appears in your favorite RSS reader. I use Bloglines because it's web based. There's a good intro to RSS here.
