My Moms car was a 55 Chevy 2 door sedan with a 6 and glide. Neighbor across the street had a 55 Chevy 2 door sedan with a flip front, straight axle, 396/4-speed and he drag raced it.It was loud and nasty looking. I looked at my moms car then his car and knew I never wanted a stocker.

Can't get enough of the American Graffiti street races either but i have a hard time watching the last race thinking of all the 55s Lucas wrecked.

I was probably about 12 years old and started to notice that the car I had been playing hide & seek in for the last couple of years would be cool to have as my own and build a hot rod out of it. My drawing skills were not that great back then, but....(the "DJ" represented the girlfriend I had who was named Dion and the J for John) 572f772b12a92_Picture1170.jpg.634e9b921f85a4260b2d532062036bea.jpg

Don't remember the exact year but it was the early 50s. Dad went to the beach on McArthur Blvd and we'd p*** Santa Ana airport, He went in a few time and I was hooked.

I believe I was born with it, I had gas in my veins instead of blood. What really kicked it in at age 10 I saw the movie Thunder road in 1957. I then started saving money by working hard cutting gr***, collecting coke bottles for return and saving my 25 cents a week allowance. At 14 I saved $700 and bought my first car, a 1956 Chevy Belair 2 door hard top with a 265 and 3 on the floor. Well to make a long story short, some 56 years later and many many cars I am still having a love affair with hot rods.

  6. For me it started when I was 10 years old and riding with my family in dads '34 Plymouth 2 door. As time went on it got worse (addictive that is). Five years later I bought my '56 F-100. I've been having fun everyday since.
