So you're on the Jalopy Journal and offended by the term, that may be one of the most ironic things I've seen on here in a while.
And since your profile says you sold everything and just work on other peoples junk, how can you be offended if you don't have a car to call a Jalopy? Seems kind of silly.

My wife and I went to a local bar/grill one evening to watch a game and put down a few beers and I parked the 29 coupe over in the corner so I could keep an eye on it when I go out and smoke. As we are walking up to the door, a girl in her late twenties looked at her friend and said, "Hey, look at the old Jalopy over there!" I just walked right past as she didn't know the car was mine and I loved the fact that she called it a jalopy. I really take offense when someone uses the "R" word though.

Not to hijack this thread (I thought the post about flathead intakes was great!), but I have to get my 2 cents in about most Corvette guys. The first new car I ever bought was a '67 coupe with a 327/350 and a 4-speed. I sold it after 2 years to exercise a stock option in the company I was working at then (one of the top ten mistakes in my life). I had always regretted selling that car, so when I had a chance of buying almost the exact (wrong color) car in 1987, I jumped at it. It was a nice original car out of Texas, and I drove it a lot over the next 20 years. About 5 years ago, I realized that it was getting a little "long in the tooth", so I did a body-off restoration so I could drive it daily. You wouldn't believe the **** I get from a lot of these guys (mostly NCRS matching number geeks). The car has some wear now, and some wrong bolt finishes! They expect every Corvette to be trailer queen. Bottom line is that these guys are not "Car Guys", but are more interested in having "Objects d'Art" Their opinions and the terms they use are meaningless to people like me.

About the only "car" people that bug me are ***s driving rice burners with fart cans and giant aluminum spoilers. It's not as much what the people drive as much as it is their at***udes.

I grew up with my dad racing Jalopys. All good to me unless they use it in a condescending manner to put them down.

I agree, my wife and I now simply call the 29 coupe, "Ida", my great grandmothers name.

    From Wikipedia :

"Jalopy: (also clunker or hooptie) is an old, decrepit, unreliable and often nonfunctional car which has limited mechanical abilities and is often rusty or dented or in an unmaintained shape. A jalopy is not a well kept antique car, but a car which is mostly rundown or beaten up. As a slang term in American English, "Jalopy" was noted in 1924[1] but is now slightly p***é. The term was used extensively in the book On the Road by Jack Kerouac, first published in 1957, although written from 1947."........sounds to me that this term is the one used to describe that OTHER kind of car so fiercly hated on this board...

At least it was not r^t rod, so I would not be offended and would take him up on his offer, and go and put it all over some fibergl*** cars.

my Jalopy sits next to my corvette, yea the 61 with dual quads sticking out of the hood. Who was dogging on me??? We have to remember that we are all hot rodders, even the little punks with the rice burners. Bet your dad thought you were a little punk chopping your cars up and cutting the exhaust off.... we are all gear heads. At least we built what we drive.
