I don't know why, but it makes me mental when guys park their cars and then turn the wheels left or right. I know I'm an idiot for giving it any thought but you see it all the time at car shows with the wheels turned. I like the look of a car with the wheels pointed straight, in pictures and in person. I'm sure there is better stuff to debate but I don't get the turned wheels....

This is a real tragic post,,though I have seen and its kinda common knowledge.. when parking on an incline to angle the wells so that if teh car were to roll it goes to the curb..

and this is'nt modeling ,,posing its a parked car

I do it so that if the trans breaks and it comes out of park it'll roll in a better direction.

You gotta turn the wheels when you park anywhere, it just looks cool.

If all the cars are backed straight in I'll leave my wheels straight. If all the cars are backed in at an angle where folks are going to be taking front 3/4 shots, that front wheel always looks better in photos with more of the face of the wheel showing then tread on the tire.

Case in point, you see the wheel, not tread.

Some magazine photographer, Rich Boyd I think, said he turns the wheel so that it best centers itself in and fills the wheel well opening for the angle of the shot he's taking.

You guys see hotrodladycruiser's Big Olds in the March 22 AutoWeek?
    (The wheels are straight.)

I remember car shows in the '60's guys would jack up the car and turn the wheels so all the tire names were perfectly at the top. and they already made sure the valve stems were all registered the same with the tire names.
This would entail jacking up the whole rear end so the rear wheels could be turned on the differential gears until the tires lined up side to side.

Sure just before I erect the professional bill board that details all the expensive people that built the car and then I add the cry baby doll.

I recall Richard Zocche (sp.?) in his '54 Ford Victoria with the hacked-off top. Beautiful Kustom...until he turned sharply to get out of '50s Nite. The car had been refit on a '70s Chevy ch***is, and the front end was adjusted with negative caster. The front wheels tilted in at the top, while turning left...(opposite of how dragsters look when turning) and the whole picture got distorted!
My '55 F100 is set up with Monoleaves and 11 degrees positive caster. I turn 'em when parking 'cause it shows cl***, with that "Dragster stance"...100 mph feels like 55.

  22. You guys are sure silly. Everyone knows you turn the wheels so the spindles don't get a "flat spot" in them thereby making it hard to turn the car from the straight ahead position!

Methinks some of you guys are just jealous of OP for coming up with a (if not truly original) at least a rarely asked question, that applies to all of us.

I'll lay odds that almost every damned one of us will think of this the next time (if not) every time we park~! Ha. :D
