Anyone have any history of Doane V8 exhaust manifolds for Ford/Mercury flatheads?

Probably marine application. They would pre-heat the lake water so the engine could warm up.

Where and when were they built?

  2. those are marine for sure looking at the exhaust pipes (copper)

  3. That's how the lake water EXITS the system. It's to cool the exhaust manifolds and muffle the noise.

Dry exhaust in an enclosed engine compartment in a vessel made of flammable material is a big no no.

^^^^^. Sea (or lake water) thru a separate pump to a heat exchanger, out thru the exhaust. The other side of the heat exchanger is engine water (we always ran antifreeze). Just like the air/water heat exchanger we call a radiator.

Can also be done without the heat exchanger, but salt water in the engine block plays hell with corrosion.

Some of those manifolds won’t take the heat without the water running thru, they’ll warp. Don’t know about yours.
