So, I have this dodge flathead that came with an old project p/u (in the bed) and not original to the truck. Well, the truck is long gone and now I have the old plymouth... I wanna use the dodge mill for my "hot" setup as it looks real swell inside. However, I dont know if its a 218" or 230"? Head casting: 1120803-5 Block casting: H19729-24 vin? on block at top: t112*I87672* As always, any help is appreciated, ___Bryan
Allpar - Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, and Jeep car information Damn.......I been to Freehome... also.....www.inliners.org
Most Chrysler sixes have a vertical pad on the right front corner of the block with model and cubic inches stamped in, at least Canadian ones do.
Post the numbers on the pad located on the front drivers side of the block at this site, These guys specialize in Plymouth/Dodge info. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/
measure the head either 23.5 or 25, post the number in the boss on the block above the generator, just below the head. P = Plymouth, C = Chrysler, S= Desoto, D= Dodge, T = Truck, IND= industrial, Also, there is a pipe plug in the head above #6 cylinder, pull the plug, insert a 19 inch piece of stiff wire, and run the engine through a rotation, this will allow you to measure the stroke, for 23 inch heads, 4 3/8 = 217.8 cu in, 4 5/8 = 230 cu in. bore is the same. Opps just saw the "T" number ist a truck block, do the stroke measurement and you will know if is the 218 or 230. Follow the link in the above post and post the number on the truck forum Pilothouse.com and coupe fellows there will be able to tell you year of maufacture. The truck serial umber should be on one of the a pillars. That number will thell where and when the truck was manufactured Here is a pic of the engine number. If you have a long block, its likely a 251 (although it could be a Canadian 230, as they built only 25 inch engines.
