    Hi
I've just bought a pair of new sprockets and timing chain for my dodge 230. (Old sprockets worn teeth and old chain a bit notchy). I've tried to fit the new parts but chain is far too tight to allow cam sprocket to fit over hub. (It would probably go on with force) with the parts loose the chain will only wrap round the crank sprocket about 3/4 of the cir***ference as opposed to the whole cir***ference(as if the teeth or chain pitches don't match) I've fitted the old sprockets with new chain just out of curiosity and the chain is still far too tight for my liking. The centre groove in the crank sprocket isn't as deep as the old one either.
Anyone know which of my parts is wrong..Also how much chain slack is good for a timing chain.? thanks, Joe

  2. ,,,Just some thought's here, and not knowing your parts sources,,,I would be inclined to think the chain would be of a better general quality and made for a variety of applications, as in length. But unless you have NOS sprockets, parts for vintage stuff made by unknown and possibly questionable sources may be suspect. It is also possible that the original standards were loose. Didn't Chrysler stuff use a slipper spring for tension?
    Are pitch diameter spec's available?
