Hi, I have been lurking in the shadows here for a while, and thought it best to sign up. I live in Queensland on the east coast of Australia, and I have an Aussie '56 Dodge Coronet I'm building. These differ from the U.S versions as they are a carry over from the earlier '52 - '53 dodge/plymouth/desoto body style with an american(?)grille. Anyway it is running a 289 5 bolt windsor and C4 auto. Left to finish is really a few small bodywork jobs, paint and re***embly. I have recently finished a '67 Rambler American that I saved from the s****man, but a 50's model car is something I've always really wanted. So the Rambler is my cruiser until I get the Dodge on the road. Thanks, Terry.

Welcome Terry, looks like your dodge is coming along nicely if its the one in your avatar.

Are you still running the stock front end in that? I'm building a the desoto version of your car although its in much worse condition!

    Cheers
    Dave

Thanks Guys. Yes Dave, it is the car in my avatar, check out my album, there are some better pics there. Mate I've got a stack of flathead engine bits I dont need. Gotta get rid of some of the stuff as I really don't have the room to keep it, besides with it being a V8, pointless keeping it. Yes it does have the original front end, with disc brakes adapted to it. come to think of it, I've got a spare set of adaptor plates here as well. I'm using falcon rotors and HQ Holden calipers, with falcon booster and master cyl, they seem to work really well so far. You should come up one day and have a look at my car, I'm only at Beerwah, and maybe I could do the same. I really wanted a desoto, but I've looked at them over the last few years as they've come up for sale and finding one with good floors etc is a real challenge. My car is a mint body, never had a rust repair to the floors, sills, or the boot floor. Even the spare wheel well is mint. So, I settled on the Dodge, beggars can't be choosers. Is your desoto on the road??

Terry: Welcome from sunny Florida as well.

I don't think it really matters to much where you are from because there are people who are car crazy all over the world.

Once you are bitten by the bug it stays with you forever.

Best of luck with your project. Jimbo

Howdy from Oregon! It'd be interesting to know how many members we actually do have in Oz. I continue to be amazed at the popularity of the custom/rod game a****st you guys down there as witnessed by posts & the influx of new members joining the forum. Cool!

The 5 bolt 289 Windsor that is in my car was done by the previous owner. Old car parts in my neck of the woods are a bit thin on the ground. Those that are around are just way to expensive. There aren't too many places(wrecking yards etc) around here that have any old stuff, they wont touch any cars over 15 - 20 years old, and local councils have had most people clean up any old cars and send them to s****.
As this engine is in the car, in good running order, with recond trans, mounts all set up, exhaust done etc I'm happy to leave it in there. Why make more work for myself.

Terry, yours is looking really good, I would love to come up and check yours out and your more than welcome to check mine out but i should warn you mines not even started yet and it looks like fred flinstone should be driving it! I'm in forest lake on the southside of brisbane, and i drive up to nambour a fair bit because Dad lives up there.

I actually bought my car because it was rough and rusty to learn how to do the repairs myself before i tackle the major body mods i have planned.

Unfortunatly my car came minus motor and box (as well as the p***enger inner guard) so i plan on running either a 245 or 265 hemi 6.
