pictures are a big help, then we can tell what type engine it is, and guess the year, and tell you where on it to look for more information.

Couple of Canadian 318 truck engines that I've got here have LD prefixes.

Just taking a guess. D59 should be the designation for Plymouth based Dodge V8 for export. D59-2 is Kingsway v8 custom or mayfair v8. Couldn't tell you the other numbers.

simply visit the site on your Iphone and use the tutorial above to post pictures. It is so easy that a 3 year old could do it

  11. Yeah I can’t help based on the numbers but knowing if it’s a V8 or six may help considerably and pictures would be great.

Could you at least tell if it is a flathead, OHV, six, eight, distributor in front or back or how long the block is?

in one of his posts above he stated that the number he found was in front of the valley pan so it must be a v8

    270.

My "car ID" book shows D55 as the code on 1955 engines, then skips up to D62 on 1956 engines....so looking in books doesn't always help?

    thanks for providing the answer

Good for American Production, I guess it excludes the Canadian Production. I just got lucky and stumbled upon that.

so we don't really know what size engine it is, unless you can find a canadian list that includes displacement?

"The V8 engine came to Chrysler of Canada's low-priced models in 1955.[5] As before, the Mayfair was largely a Plymouth Belvedere, using that car's 115 in (2,900 mm) wheelbase and body with Dodge's front sheetmetal. The engines were imported from Detroit with various covers, manifolds, electrical pieces and rubber parts added in Windsor. Only the Mayfair offered a V8. And both Plymouth and Dodge offered PowerFlite 2-speed automatic with its new dash-mounted control lever. The Hy-Drive unit was eliminated."

Whoever knows what a 1955 Dodge Mayfair came factory with.

  19. Plymouth used a 259” poly up here in ‘55. Same family as the Dodge engines.
