I think Greer is going to be off the scale. I have a new guy promoting in our area and he's on fire. I want to break the fan attendance record there bad.

Yesterday two of the SEG cars attended The Atlanta 10,000. I was a little skeptical because last year was not real organized - or something - but getting some time at the track and hanging out with friends was the goal so we went. Friday night the dew was settling out of the air and the track was slick as hell on the big end. Everyone was getting sketchy so we spent the night in the pits.

We ran into a cute girl Friday night who was talking about Mopars and Hemi's and all nostalgia Tommy Ivo stuff. She was a pistol and I said my car had a hemi - she tried to call BS and we walked to our pit and fired it off about 11:30pm. Never seen a girl that could quote 392 valve sizes and rod journal sizes - you name it. We were cracking up. So she says if you are a real G***er you dry hop right? I'm pfffft of course - every time! 6K drop the clutch. She says tomorrow you better o_O. Too funny.

So as promised - dry hopped the hell out of it .....

Never got out of the starting lights after that  Then the Sunshine Express broke his clutch :( bummer. But to be honest the event was damn good! Very well run this time. Thoroughly enjoyed it - except for the breaking of parts.

Dave - let's see a pistol - if I was younger and single - she would spend all my money and it would be a wild time :D then when you are old you would have stories about a girl you once knew - "Man she was a Pistol those were fun times."

    I think that's a proper translation ;)

This was the Summit Racing no name brand chunk. Not a good decision to save $50 here. The ring gears were the $130 set too. There are places to save money and this ain't one of them - as Johnny Thomas always says .....

Did you have a crush sleeve or are you using the sleeve with shims?
    On the pinion.

Think I can reuse the spool? Everything else is suspect so its not going back in. I think the chromoly yoke should be ok ?

I know you've spent a lot and to suggest this is painful but, in the long run could be cheaper, and will also prolly be faster, which should be a concern since you told me you wanted to get it back going for Greer.
Order a complete chunk, ring & pinion, spool, and yoke from Moser, Mark Williams, or another "name" outfit that depends on their reputation in drag racing rear gears to stay in business and promises a quick enough delivery date.
Save the spool and yoke, get them magnafluxed or other NDT checks, and checked for warpage, etc. before you even consider using them again.
That way you'll have them for spares if they are still OK, and if they aren't you won't destroy another batch of parts if they fail, and you won't discover one of them out of whack at the last minute trying to make the race and needing a part that can't be in your hands in time to make it.

PS- No more trying to impress some gal!

This is what a bolt through looks like if u don't already know. The cap bolts go all the way through the case with a nut on the outside also.

I looked at the Summit web site to see if there was a warranty .....

Tony I have one you can borrow if you need it. I might have a used pro gear but I don't know what ratio you are running. I think I have a 35 spline spool. If I have the gear you need I can just build it complete and you can use it for Greer and give it back when ever.

That 8 3/4 will handle a lot of power just make sure you use a 489 case with the large pinion and use shims instead of a crush sleeve my my good friend runs one in his 63 sport fury with a hilborn injected hemi he has never had any issue with it in 5 yrs of punishment the car runs 8.90 pretty consistently

Thanks that's good re***urance I have a 489 case. I heard about the shims. Also heard the main caps are a weak point, but mark Williams makes billet ones.

  25. I talked to Quai Chang Caine, he said "Gr***hopper, don't buy Chinese junk, call JC @ Strange Engineering and tell him Ric at CP Pistons sent you." By the way, if you don't get some turns outta that pressure plate, Marc and I are changing your HAMB name to Bog Patch.

You know what Ric - I did take a turn out of the base pressure on the clutch right before this exploded .... so maybe no bog meant more power to the Chinese junk and it squealed Méiyǒu mǎháng !! (No Mas !! from the ancient Greek) But really Summit - 1100+ HP capable?

I can't believe a company like Jegs or Summit would put there name on something like that. I have been through 3 jegs brand line locks and 2 waters pumps that customers have bought. They look just like a name brand but have jegs name. About 1 or 2 runs and they quit. I'm sure everyone else that gets them is having the same problem.

  28. I don't know how they put an HP rating on this stuff. 1100HP in a 1500 lb. digger, with an automatic, ain't the same as 1100HP in a 2800 lb car with a manual trans. Drive train parts should be rated by engine torque, vehicle weight, trans type, foot brake or trans brake or clutch, gear ratio, & traction coefficient. Sorry you had the trouble Tony, my customers & friends who have run manual trans successfully for years, have always told me to save and by premium drive line components. PS. Less base pressure means less drive line shock, so if you hadn't taken the turn out, the pinion would probably be laying on the ground.

  29. PPS. We sell lots of our precious metals to China, then they sell us the left over floor sweepings, cigarette ****s and whatever other s**** junk they got laying around.
When people whine about our piston/rod prices, I tell them, "cheap ain't good & good ain't cheap". Hope you get her together for Greer buddy.

  30. Listen to Kip, 8 3/4 are toys, Dana 60's are for big boys.
