It seems like no one really looks in the wanted section of the classifieds.
I have posted a couple of things I really need but no one ever responds.
Looking for a couple of C-clips for my '40 Ford brakes and door hinges for a 28-9 A truck or 26-7 T coupe.
Now I know there is someone out there that would have these left over from a project or on some junk that's taking up space.
    Just a rant I guess.

I hardly have time to read the headlines on the main board. Are you building an A truck? I have a '28-'29 A closed cab cowl and a set of T doors. I thought I could just relocate the A hinges on the cowl. Do you know the trick?

  3. Sure, I look, but I don't even answer if the shipping on something is worth more than the part is, or it's an all-day-job to get to a little piece that's worth like 2 bucks.

That stuff can't be bought from any of a zillion parts houses? Up here both are usually too rotted to re-use. I realize it would cost more, but you'd have 'em in a day or two with no frustration and have nice clean shiny new stuff to boot -

decent hinges are going to be hard to find. I ended up finding some gate hinges that didn't look too out of place.

Randman, I don't know that trick but would love to learn it.
New T coupe hinges are way out of my price range ($369) and I thought I could adapt the A truck hinges since the doors are the same.
    Now what about those C-clips?

There is a difference in some of the 26-27 car hinges vs. the 28-29 truck hinges. One kind has a piano type wrap around the pin, and the other has just a solid inside half. Get what I mean? My bro thinks he could modify one of either for use on his coupe, depending on which kind he finds first.

I'm with Rusty on this one. I read the wanted as much as the for sale, but on a part that will take me a good part of the day to either find or remove and for only a couple of bucks, I'm not so much into that. If it is a higher dollar part then yep, if I have it I try and help. Or if it is something I know where it is, sure. Plus add in the fact that,,,,, although I like many HAMBers,,,,,,, most seem to have rather tight wallets. I have had a few things on here I have kept the price much lower then I did for the "general public", as I always do on the Hamb. I let it go a few weeks, little to no response, then I put it on Craigslist or Egay for a few hundred more and sold in hours.

  13. Yeah they look, over 500 time so far, unfortunately for me not too many can help me... :(

Just as I suspected - I'm beyond help.

I put a couple ads up and got some info... but nothing purchased yet. You can also do what I did and put what you are looking for in your signature. That way it is seen by everyone who looks where you have posted!

  15. i look at it just as much as the for sale section. sometimes i have what they are looking for , but don't want to sell it..so i don't respond.

  16. what hinge piece are you looking for? On the door or body?

Yesterday 4,876 people looked at the wanted section... It's the eleventh most popular page on jalopyjournal.com...

That said, I have had a wanted ad for 38 ford stainless for over 2 years and have never found any!

  18. I may have found a trade on my A closed cab pickup. We are talking via PM right now.

On on here nearly every night. (NO, I'M NOT ADDICTED!!!!) The first place I go is the want ads, then the for sale ads, then to the main board. I try to check the JJ once a week.

yes i read em, but not too often, once a day usually.

but they do get some exposure. Ryan must have some connections at Google! :D i posted a wanted ad a while back, for a stewart warner twin blue speedo and tach, no bites yet, but last night while attempting to do some research, the search terms stewart warner twin blue brought up my wanted ad as the first result.

oh yeah, did i mention that i'm looking for some stewart warner twin blue gauges? yes? well i just mentioned it again!:D i won't turn down greenlines either!

  21. I RARELY look....but then I don't have anythin' anyone could want!

Having a "WANTED" in your sig is only any good if everyone has the signature option viewable.

I read the wanted ads first, always. I'm amazed at how often I have something someone is looking for. Not everyone reads the want ads, but the people who have stuff to sell usually do, and that's what's important.

I was despirately needing 394 Olds exhaust manifolds, I put a want ad up, and got a bunch of response right away, in the end BlownOlds had what I need and (hopefully) they're on the way.

There are always going to be some unanswered ads, there just aren't enough T roadster trunklids and A coupe doors to go around.

I have posted for some pretty oddball crap and had good results in the Wanteds. Then again I've posted some things and had no response at all. It's all in what people have laying around, if they want to give it up and if they want to give it up to the person asking for it.

I'm the kind of guy who will pull a worthless part no matter what if someone can use it. I'm not out to make a buck.

REALLY good titles and descriptions help ALOT.

And would someone find Ryan his stainless? I'm tired of seeing that ad.

Oh yeah, I look everyday. :)

Got a sweet Plymouth toilet seat trunklid from Rashy for real cheap and got a relay to get it to me, couldn't have worked out better. Rashy hooked me up right.

Yeah, titles and descriptions are helpful. The "I am looking for stuff for a 52 Genericar" doesn't really help me, but if you say "I need a horn ring and a tail light lens for a '52 Genericar" then I'll know if I can help or not. Be specific, people.

C-clips...if you mean 2106 ones here:
    http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/FH_images/FH_brakes-pics/Flathead_Brakes_passenger_1939to42.jpg

Those are available locally, but not listed under early Ford...
I used to gettem from a rotating rack of brake hardware all the stores had, I think probably Bendix brand. Get a counterman to show you his brake hardware catalog, and dig through looking for the pictorial and kit section til you see the things. Dunno what they are actually listed for, but they have uses on recent iron.
If you need the clips that hold shoes near the middle, much harder...Wilton, Richard early V8 garage, Clings brakes would be possible sources, and if anyone repops them they will be available via Sacramento, which has a good online catalog.
I personally would never buy any seriously incomplete Ford backing plates anymore, because there are a couple of minor items that are nowadays really hard to find as separate pieces.

"Wanted" works for me. I use it more when I am looking for stuff, maybe someone wants something I have laying around, and we can swap.
    I like it.

  30. I look at the wanted section every morning. Sold several items because of it. The for sale section is where I go next. Ya' do that when ya' have a 40 year collection of "stuff". I need to do more sellin' and less buyin' ;) .

As for the '38 stainless moulding, I'd like to get a nicer drivers side hood trim piece. Put this in the category of unobtainium. Seems like every piece made was pre-bent at the hood support.
