So many people have painted it so many colors, why don't you add yet another chapter and paint it your version of how you would have done it had you built it back in the day?

Bags don't belong on those cars Junior. Juice belongs on those cars. All I can say to you Junior is that it's his car and he can do what he wants with and to each their own. Bag the bitch!

Yea! I hear you I kinda like the lime gold flake with white interior real 60s looking but ill most likely cruise it like it is for alittle while in hopes to find another magazine article or some pics of it different colors to get an idea of how it looked then decide on a color ;) I dont think ill be bagging it though but i might run a 60s style hydro set up"pesco"
I understand all the respect stuff beleve me! but its gotta lay on the ground sometime back i took some pics of the truck and cut the picture and slammed it thats what it needs a big differance in the look it looks like it was built to be on the running boards.:D :D

Cool. I love these stories. I'm in total awe everytime Rikster posts something...dude you rule.

Some kind of heavy gold-ish flake with the white diamond tuck would be my direction, and I agree its gotta be slammed. I'd also do the quad lights, looks cool with the tubular grille. In the article it looks like there were no tail lights...WTF?

Keep some of the history and originality but make it your own.

15. I know this hobby/world we are in is all about individual taste and freedom and expresion....BUT...I think you would be doing a bad thing to "modernize" a piece of our history to suit your personal tastes. Read the article about the guy who is the keeper of Jake's truck for a good perspective. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176415
Before you do anything, I would talk to the builder if at all possible, your ideas may change. I can see after owning it for 6 years how it would feel like "your truck" but dont forget it will allways be his truck.
You need to restore that piece of history.

16. Yes I totally agree “Keep some of the history and originality but make it your own.” “Restoring” it would be nice but why….aren’t we into customizing??? Go for it and good luck….so will we see this at Paso?

Well I spoke with the upholstery man who did the truck back in what he recalls to be the early 60s and check this out they still own the upholstery shop its called Dido Upholstery Shop in Lewiston, ID Richard "Dick" Gludt age 72 passed down the Family Business to his son whom is currently running the shop Dick was a very nice man and his son was really cool as well Dick didnt remember too much but did remember the "White Diamond Tuft Headliner" because he said this truck was done early in his career and stuggled with the headliner a little because of the concaved shape it was tough he couldnt remember the o.g. color of the truck but did remember Roy Delaney well and gave up a few tips says Roy had moved to Reno,NV
years ago so if anybody from reno has heard of a Roy Delaney of reno, NV please let me know as my search is just starting Oh! Dick had no Idea this truck had ever hit the pages of the Magazines and was pretty exited to see the article in Popular Customs his son was also pretty stoked because of the history that involves their family bussiness and his Dad! they also are car guys!! cool huh!!:D Dick tells me Roy helped found the World of Wheels car show in lewiston but i didnt have much luck searching that subject :( well off to search some more ;) .

20. First off, what an unbelievable find...

It's your truck, and given the drastic color changes and wheel/tire combo's it has had over the years, its authenticity in appearance is relative to the point in time when one looks at it.

In my opinion, the wildly customized body is screaming for some candy and scallops. A chopped/channeled custom also needs to be lowered more than a few inches to get the proportions right, i.e. bags or hydro's (your call).

Even though the tire/wheel combo in the article was no doubt the "cool" way to go at build time, they look wrong for the trucks style.

It's your $$$, annd if you can get the project to where you're happy with it and maintain the essence of the original build style, DO IT HOW YOU WANT IT. Updates and improvements are and have always been present in the kustom realm, and you modifying it to your taste is no different.

P.S. I like the clamshell hood...

Just my 2 cents

It does need to be lowered, but you don't need to bag a truck to lower it.

As for paint, paint it however you woud like to see it done. I'm sure it will look good no matter what.

Fun times! Its cool enough just to know that another original custom car has been found. Congrats and I can't wait to see this in color!
Rikster - as always, if you start to read a HAMB post about whether a car is from the early days, if you don't see a Rikster post, then it probably wasn't. Great article.

26. i gotta say I love this post,by far the best one I have read yet, thanks for the history class, you don't get to relive history but this has to be as close as it gets.
As far as the resto goes, like many others said I would try to stay close to the original form but you do have to make it your own at the same time.

How much did you pay for that originally and did you know it was the same truck as in the article when you got it?

Conrad knew zero on the truck when he got it except that it was an early custom. He had (what i don't) will power to hold onto the truck for 6-8 years without doing nothing to the truck for the sake of finding out where it came from. If it were me i would have cut into it along time ago...Thats will power Conrad! We'll after a few conversations and Conrad knowing that i was into Kustoms (I spell it with a "K") He invited me to his shop to look at the truck. I nearly messed my pants when i saw it and just about cried becaused i didn't bring my camera. Conrad said if i would like to come back the next day to shoot some shots of it because he didn't have a way to post pics of it online.....I said "SURE"! I then told him that i would post it on the HAMB. Conrad not knowing about the site but being the carbuff he is, had to be introduced so i asked him to log on and sign up. In the mean time i was posting the pics and starting this thread....all that with a mixture of help(Rickster rules!) and interest of you fellow HAMB'rs made this a 5 star thread...and i think my first one!! :D :D Thanks guys and i hope together we can break and solve this custom mystery case.......oops! i didn't spell it with a "K" that time. hahaha
P.S. If any of you HAMB'rs want to meet Conrad or ask him anything about the truck...He sells Chevy parts at the Pomona Swap meet and will be there this Sunday on Chevy row (Conrad post your space #) stop by and say "Hi"

Well here we go fellas! sit back and read this :D Ive been google searching everybody in the article Rickster posted "THANKS AGAIN RICKSTER" anyway didnt have much luck i called quite a few leads and came up with nothing  But didnt give up I was able to reach Mr.Dick Gludt with the help of his son Doug Gludt a buick Collector well he gave me his dads number and I called him this morning but at 72 Dick couldnt remember too many details allthough he did remember Mr. Roy Delaney very well he told me he remembered that Roy helped Found the World of wheels car show in Lewiston and maybe I can find him that way but  again no luck well he also told me he remembers Roy moving to Reno,NV years ago he said try looking in Reno So! I Googled his name again but with Reno,NV added to it and came up with a match only the match said Jacqueline Delaney /Roy R. Delaney so I thought HHMMM!!! So I googled her name and went through about 15 Pages when I found a story about her Recieving an Award at her Job a bank so I noticed the bank was in Las Vegas and remembered that the google match said addresses
in Reno/Vegas so I called 411 and got the # to the bank well there was like 35 banks with the same names but I got lucky and the one
I got was the right one and spoke to jacqueline and she confirmed that infact This was the same Roy Delaney well I was like  OH MY GOD!!! I FOUND HIM :D Well during that conversation with her she puts me on hold and when she returned she says hey! you'll never beleve this but Roy just got here would you like to speak to him I Did'nt know what to do Cry or scream out of joy :D anyway he gets on the phone and says so i hear you have the truck I had so many Questions to ask I didnt know where to start so we talked for a minute and he had to go they were closing up the bank so I gave him my # to call me when he got home and he did ;) Lets start by saying the o.g. paint job was the Turqouise then i think he said he did it a dark Candy maroon then blue metalic with purple highlites than Candy flake Lime gold w/green highlites but didnt like it so he changed it "Get this He said it was only limegold for the weekend" then changed it to Red He also told me It Won BEST CUSTOM SWEEPSTAKES at the Portland Roadster Show in 66 or 67 he was'nt sure the truck was blue back then he said he also told me when he sold it he pulled out the engine and trans and kept them He also said he has a gift for me GUESS WHAT! Thee Original License Plates in like new Condition :D also said he has all the pictures of when he built it he's gonna make me copies even said he was gonna give me the lead paddle he used when he built the truck This Man is Amazing I had such a good time Choppin it up with him i may not even sleep 2nite from being so exited He also said he has a copy of the Magazine it came out in Signed By George Barris Himself and he wanted me to have it.Well my fingers are getting sore from all this typing but ill keep you'all
posted.:D :D :D
Thanks to all that helped make this Dream come true I love this site:D And its awesome members THIS IS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT!!!!!
