Does anybody remember the coiled plastic decorative wrap that was put on the underhood wiring to dress it up for car shows during the '50's? It covered the wires completely and was tight fitting. I remember it being black and white. What was it called? Where did we get it?

not wire loom - it's like that silly stuff they make girly bracelets out of or springy-coil key 'chains'.

When all else fails, I dig out the JC Whitney catalog -

I remember the stuff...also remember it had a very short time in the spotlight

We used to put it on the telephone cords.
It was not auto related, but ended up there.

They have a black version for wiring looms at Radio Shack. Pretty cheap compared to the big electrical houses. But it has flat sides and edges. I think I remember the old stuff having a smooth, half-round or half-oval design. Or not? The stuff always reminded me of those 50's craft kits, where you laced together a pre-punched kids wallet or something like that with naugahyde lace. The still sell that junk at places like Michaels. Before retractable cords on phones it was sold in packages to put on the handset cord to keep it from kinking. Now you know how old I am. I did see it on ebay a while back.

  17. Man! I have been looking for this stuff for years! All the 'old' stuff from our local bike shop was tossed in the dumpster when new folks took over (they think there was a bunch of the stuff). When I describe it to anyone else they look at me as if I were nuts!!

    Thanks for the hints!

    Here's what I wanted:
