Hot Rods Does anyone besides me think this is cool!

  1. Just throwing this out there.
    Saw it on ...list.
    Thought I would share.
    1952 MG with V-8-60.
    Seems like all it needs is bigs and littles!

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd add the hood sides and head to a Vintage meet at Lime Rock. I had the U.S. Mule II years ago an MG-TD just like that one with a blown 392 HEMI. Bob

    A good friend of mine has a 54 (?)TD. Big Ford guy (has a 65 GT 350 he bought in '66). He's go bonkers over that cool little unit!

    My father was a huge British car guy. My baby pictures are of me sitting in his MG TC . I cut my teeth handing him "spanners" as he wrenched under the "bonnet". One of my favorite memories him testing me on all the different British to American terms

    Yes, pretty common swap back in the day. Good friend of mine's father had one, use to race it back in the 50's. Well built, can't remember the name right now but he bought it from some racer that went on to become successful at Indy in the late 50's.

    Very cool! I've had a couple with SBC conversions, a nice one just last year but all were a handful and rather dangerous. I have seen a couple done with the V8-60 and at the time they were done I'll bet it was the hottest thing in town. Good idea to put the extra oil you will need right in the battery box. Thanks Tony, nice photos.

    must leak, or burn, a lot of oil to need to have quarts of oil, plus additive, on shelf by motor

    Very cool.

    With the hod sides off you can see how small the engine bay actually is. Most of the room under the hood is legroom for the cabin, not that there's much of that.

    Wires are easy as I remember.
    The splined hub just bolts on the
    wheel studs that are there, or just
    changfe the drums to spline mounts.

    About the bigs and littles, I think they
    belong on any hot rod! But that's just me!
    I might even take off the fenders!

    I feel your pain, I thought a monster Miata would have been cool until I tried driving one. My head went through the top, and the steering wheel was sitting in my lap.

  29. The spline hubs do just bolt on, and then the wheels slips over the hub, tightened by the Knock off. Then you beat the crap out of the knock off to keep them tight - oh, and there are lefts and rights, and when you put them on the wrong side bad things happen in a hard stop! I bought a Triumph Spitfire that the guy complained the brakes made a weird groaning noise and didn't stop very well. Someone had swapped them left for right and under braking the knock off would loosen and it was stripping the splines. Two new (used) hubs, put them on the right sides and I was good to go.
    Fenders off that MG? NOOOOOOOO! (beyond BUTT UGLY ;) Saw one once, looked like crap, guy was redoing the car and just had to take it for a drive ...... He looked embarrassed.
     
  30. Tony, I hope you're buying that. On another note, once you fix the oiling problem, that shelf will be perfect to hide two bottles of Jack Daniels. Just in case, you go camping or something. :)
