Oh man, you caught me. It was an evil plan the whole time.

The reality is that I don't have the willpower to make myself wait to buy something, so I talked myself into buying them. Apparently the price is right, since others are interested too, so I don't feel as dumb buying them.

Yeah.. I do not as they say get it? aluminum in that period was not atmosphere controlled so all the impurities in the air is buried in the molten aluminum. and the castings were not that great in those years. They are able to be polished and that is a unusual looking deal. Having said all this,it what lights your fire.

I ended up getting rid of my Weiand Aluminum Cheaters for a '32 Firewall but all this talk definitely has left me with sellers remorse. Love Stock looking heads and when you couple them with Aluminum all the better!

The question is KIRK!, polished or natural cast?

I think either looks great - even painted for the super cheater vibe - but I think my choice would be polished. They'll just stand out like crazy from the expected finned aluminum heads. Plus you could use them to do you hair in like a mirror - if I had any hair left to do.

Pete Henderson roadster style.....did Pete have a Super Cool Rock-A-Billy hair do that he needed the polished ones? I'm pretty sure I seen a flamed upright base in his the passenger seat when he raced the horse so this all makes sense now.

Hey Kirk whats the part number on the boxes? C7RA 6050-B?

I've been working with Bruce Lancaster making soeme compression ratio charts for the flatty V-8's. He sent me a fax with Ford USA & Canadian heads info that I have been digesting. Apparently from his list the above heads were the only ones made in Canada. The later head was part #CaBA 6049; 6050 also in aluminum. Three others were USA made 81AS (6049; 6050,) 99AS (6049, 6050) & 19AS (6049; 6050.) All 3 are listed as cast iron.

Guh, the combination of being Canadian, getting a truck with a 48 flathead in it this summer, and seeing this post is bad... Now I want a set! :(

  27. Damn, those are so*****in new, they never even put the valves in!

I bought a couple flatheads a while back; I don't have them yet, don't even know if they are cracked, and yet I STILL am trying to figure a way to pay for a pair of these.

Only made in Canada Eh ?

Aluminium, high compression heads, with no fins......

These heads were cast at the Alcan Factory in Kingston, Ontario Canada which were manufactured for both the early and late flat heads, both Ford and Mercury. The early heads are still floating around out there but as I said, the late heads are becoming extremely sought after.

'Cheater heads', well "Weiand" manufactured heads without the fins, however; these were obviously aftermarket heads as the aluminium heads pictured are a gennie Ford item....

There has been much discussion regarding these original aluminium heads, with a few different opinions, however; some very knowledgable dirt, circle track racers and antique guru's from my area share the same opinion.....

"MADE IN CANADA" is embossed on the heads as you can see above picture.

All Canadian aluminium heads had markings as numerous heads are floating around without markings, which are more often than not, finned heads which had the fins milled off as dicussed below.

Remember, old time circle track racers in Ontario, Canada and upstate N.Y. would machine the fins off of aftermarket heads as the rules for dirt, circle track racing, once stated: "No finned heads". Hence, the racers taking this rule to the letter of the word, would mill the fins off of the heads.

The rules then stated; "No aftermarket heads", however; Canadian heads would still be permitted under this rule.

The third rule change, finally read; "No aluminium or after market heads" as the majority of racers and rule makers were unaware of factory aluminium heads. This is quoted from an old time circle track racer.

The last set I had went up for auction, here on the HAMB before the Lonestar Round-Up this past April, as "Doc" was the lucky winner...

It took me four years to locate 'five' good sets..... All have been sold to HAMB'ers......

Are these new NOS heads the Canadian/Weiand heads or the stock alumminum Canadian heads?
