can you please measure the location of the central front crossmember rivet hole forthe crossmember then in from the outer rail - and over from the inside edge any pics of an aftermarket front x member in a rail to guess the stamping rad pad distance i have looked at the plans at 14 and 7/16 inches to centre but that doesnt do whatsname for caster and other stuff thanks oh - same with the rear want to be able to bolt in the crossmembers temporary and be able to flatpack - -storage thanks put the zero on the top flat part of the frame horn and measure back in a straight line thanks or imagine you have an original rear crossmember and an aftermarket front one with the rivet holes in already, and you can tap them. and want to fit them into a new set of rails without any real dims and are struggling
@nobby Will this help ? If so , let me know & mark witch Measurement, & I will get a clearer ( A, B, C ,etc. ) measurement number if unable to see . A original FoMCo blueprint View attachment 6253932 View attachment 6253934 View attachment 6253933
Sounds like you are working with repro rails? If so, be aware that each manufacturer shapes the ends of their horns slightly differently, and none of them are identical to originals. Also be aware that the width of the top and bottom flanges are different, and probably not the same as original either. Best to take your measurements from the outside surface and let the inner flange land where it may. The print that Eddy shows (I don’t think it was Ford created) is rather nice, but still is not perfect. My brother did extensive research from many different original frames and made adjustments to the print. Only then did he create his frame jig.
@alchemy , Just asking ,can you date the drawing? Curious , Many 32 around me have been done off of. It was obtained around 1988 ,I believe @ Hershey, since I had it enlarged.
That drawing looks like the same one that American Stamping sent me for my ASC rails. I got it about 5 years ago.
ANY ONE HAVE ONE OF THEM NEW FANGLED METRIC MEASURING STICKS CAN CHECK THIS? AT THE FRONT, IS IT FROM THE CIRCULAR OPUTER EDGE OR THE FLAT ATOP THE RAIL so basicall, fit the front and rear spreader bars, shim them to 1016mm at the back and 600mm at the front clamp a straight edge at the outer circles, measure in at the front 364mm to centre of spring hole, with crossmember layed upside down on top and transfer rivet holes - similarily at the rear come in 520mm - check for square. or IF you have an OEM frame, what is the measurement from the outermost face on the frame horn circles in to the centre of the spring pocket holes does the 2878mm or 113.3'' dimension between the two spring pocket holes tally ? thanks
THE DRAWING HAS THE RIVET HOLES , BUT THERE ARE NO DIMS FOR THEM.... THANKS! I am in more trouble that I thought as the rear crossmember i have was squshed up to fit inside 40 rails, so i am in no mans land there even worse, its a 33 34 rear member damn
also - say for example you wanted to fabricate a facsimile of a central 32 crossmember and you could draw it up in fusion 360 almost if you like have it flat cut - laser or flow jet, with perforated slots on the 'brake' or fold lines, so you could bent it over a bench-weld, make it so it appeared OEM .where would you get thos dimensions, would someone need to do a brass rubbing almost?
Are you not better trying to find a frame this side of the pond to measure/photograph? Give Ade at Buckland Automotive a call, he will have a frame there or have a contact to point you toward.
Nobler, I take it you realise a 32 stock rear spring is curved in plan view and the crossmember, certainly in the spring mount area, is similarly curved to suit. I'm not seeing that coming from cnc cut / welded foldy bits to resemble originals! Now there's a challenge for ya! Chris Chris
