I know Duane really well. I worked for Boyd for 2 years right next to him. Duane is actually a really good guy who does have plenty of skills. He has worked in the southern california hot rod industry for years. When I worked for Boyd, Duane was Just one of the guys in the shop, After I quit he got moved up to shop supervisor. Boyds shop has the same problem as most large shops the right hand does'nt always know what the left hand is doing. This gets compounded by the drama the t.v. people want to add in. Jimmy White P.s I hope this helps answer your questions.
Jimmy -- Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I deleted my original post because it was simply an opinion based on the TV series. I'm glad to hear that my perceptions were incorrect, and should I have the opportunity to meet Duane I'll tell him so. Again, thanks for setting me straight. Mike Bishop
Mike- no problem, Duane is a pretty good friend and I have seen what he is capable of doing. I think the show kind of makes those guys look bad. We built a 32 roadster that is getting painted by Charlie, at Boyds shop right now so I am still in contact with all those guys. Charlie is a phenomenal painter. Its funny I was watching the show to and just happened to click on the computer and saw your post. Take care Jimmy White
Jimmy -- Again, thanks for the perspective on Duane. Here's a pistol for you -- while we're net-talking about Duane, Gooch is PMing me about some e-mail conversations I've had with him with regard to Rudy's work, and starting to make plans for me coming to SoCal and hanging out. And then Gooch mentions that you're just down the street! Is this a hoot or what?! Mike
Mike, Jimmy's shop (if he lets us come over) will make you want to quit building hotrods. He is in a cl*** all his own. Like I said in the 60's post where his pickup showed up, if he had both the 32 and the roadster pickup at the Grand National show he will have work for the rest of his life..... probably does right now anyway. I hope to have mine back from him by then to beat the rush and the price hike.
Reminds me I'd like to visit Jimmy's shop real soon and maybe see what's goijng on over at the Gooch's place if it's cool.
Gooch, thanks for the compliments man. I am going to hire you as my p.r. guy. Jim A you are more then welcome to come by anytime. Give me a call at the shop 714-279-0400. Jimmy White p.s. I would feel honored if mike bishop came by my shop.
well then it's settled, I'le bring Mike and some snacks. Jim, you bring a main dish and Rudy will bring a sensible dessert.
Hey Gooch. Sorry for the unannounced subject change but when Rudy was at my house he mentioned a bet to see who had their car on the road first. His Three Window or my '36. Tell him I just drove mine to Bonneville. Wayno
