No you made the mistake of not saying anything about liking it. You said is wasn't appropriate for the HAMB. You can't move the goal posts after you have been called out for being wrong.

I am not a fan but if you squint a bit and mentally delete all the gold stuff and the tires, the actual body shape is pretty cool.
In a similar vein regarding the tires:

I will agree that it would look better with normal tires. here is a shot from the movie it appeared in Cinderfella Cinderfella.jpg

The great part of this hobby is we all like different things, it would be boring if we all liked the same things!

Looks like Barris collaborated with Albert Hofmann on the build.

I have mad respect for this car and it's whole story. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. There's a lot of cars from those times that left my knickers completely alone but there was insane innovation and sometimes silly results. Sahara is borderline to me but it will always deserve respect.

I've never seen photos that show the interior before, it's just as wild as the exterior.
So are those still the original tires? I'd think they would have deteriorated after all these years, but on the other hand where would you find another set.

Goodyear recreated the tires with LEDs.

Looks like I’m gonna have to take a little day trip to Danville. It’s not my favorite Kustom, but it’s been a while since the wife and I visited the Blackhawk Museum and I’d like to see that car in person.
The first time we went both floors were amazing display cars. Last time, they had done away with one floor of cars and added the western museum. I was disappointed but I found the western museum interesting on a different level. Still, the cars and the presentation are exceptional.

True but 'gl*** tubs date to the '50s and the design goes back decades further so the style is traditional.

So I read that the new tires are solid urethane with LEDs.
How did the original ones work and how were they constructed?

Growing up in the late 70s/early 80s, all the bmx bikes had colored tires. I remember my fifth grade teacher predicting that in the future cars would have colored tires too..... Lol. He didn't say anything about light up tires tho.

Darn, that thing is Fu-uuuu-uuuu-ugly. Now, I readily admit that I'm not a "Kustoms" guy at all, but dang, that thing.......

I had read a long while back, that the tires were actually being considered to be made commercially available. Goodyear thought it would help the cars to be seen and make driving in the fog safer. I'm glad they didn't catch on as all the "bro trucks" out here would be running them.

These tires are over 100 pounds apiece. Definitely not anything you could drive on.

I love the insanity of the whole thing - it's not like he could just order up a bunch of **** from catalogues to build the Golden Sahara... that is original wackiness from the ground up.
