Been searching the net, but have not come up with anything.

Looking for around a 2.50 ring and pinion set for my 9" Ford.

If you KNOW of a company that does, please let me know.

I'm pretty sure Ford made a 2:75 or 2:80 but that might be as tall as they go

    priced gas lately?

  12. Yeah no ****, gas is too damn high for 4.11's. I'm really more concerned with highway RPM. I like taking my car everywhere but right now everywhere is in the city only. I can **** up a full tank of gas in 100 miles on the highway. I'm still running the torque tube so I have a choice of 4.11 and 3.73, I'm swapping to 3.73 soon but I'd really rather have 3.08's and very tempted to go open driveline just to run 3.08 posi.

they probably came out of 70s full size Fords and Lincolns, those gears were available in cars for several years. I have a set of 2.50s I got from a hamber a while ago and never used. A guy in town was going to give me as set of 2.47s but I never went over and got them. They're really not that hard to find.

I had 2.47's in my 33 p/u just to help get me through the season when the engine was going south. Boy are you right smokin the tires! Around town I never got out of second gear with my 3-speed auto, and on the highway you have unlimitted top end with great gas milage.

1900 lb. Model A + 401 CID Nailhead w/465 lb. of torque + 2.50 gear + 29.5" tall rear tires = Way more acceleration than you can legally use, and a real nice low crusing RPM @ 75 MPH for great gas mileage.
    That's why.

The 1977 Thunderbird has 2.50 gears. I put them in my pickup but they are waay too tall for the heavy loads I pull thru the mountains. I am going to u-pull-it soon for something lower

I bought 2.47s at the Ford dealer. Saw them in a '77 F100. Have mine along with 2.75 and 3.00 gears ready for WoS

A guy I worked with had 2.50 in his full size pickup with a 300 and 3 speed. Damn thing got high 20's mpg.

  24. The lowest I know of currently in the aftermarket is 2.84. Ford may or may not still carry OE ratios that high. Worth a look if you haven't already. Some dealer in the system may still have some in stock. If you don't want used, another option would be a Gear Vendors overdrive, albeit pricey....also, I'd call Randy's Ring & Pinion, Reider, & so forth directly. They may have the ability to special order the high gears...though I'd expect to pay $450-$500 for that privilege.

I have a complete 2.75 28-spline unit in good shape that I'd gladly give you for the shipping $$...but I'd guess you could find one of those locally for not much more.

wild guess is that they're long obsolete since ford quit making the 9" rear 20 years ago, and the performance guys only want higher ratios, so that's all the aftermarket makes.

but you should be able to find a cherry set of used ones out of some big ford car from the late 70s.

a couple years ago a hamber sent me a used set for the cost of shipping.

if you're willing to do the NOS hunt, I have a 1977 motors flat rate book that lists part number

    D7AZ-4209B

as a 9" 2.50 full size car ring and pinion set

cost 30 years ago was $131.80

I got the set I have for reduced cruising rpm, running a big block over 2500 rpm at 75 mph is a drag on long trips

We do it ALL the time. 1350 lbs T-bucket,, bone stock crate 350, turbo 350, 31 or 33 inch tall M/T sportsmans, will still torch the tires (no weight), but 75 mph on the highway you are humming just above idle. Funny we get better milege in a T then my my wifes old V6 multi port fuel injected tin can cougar. We looking better doing it (of course I'm still FUGLY), had more fun doing it, and it costs less. Any questions?

I've got a complete rearend out of a T-Bird with 2.47 gears. Enginejo sold it to me awhile back and he delivered it to my house when we had a Thrash on Denise's Big Olds. I'm going to use it with a Doug Nash 4+1 trans with an insane 3. something 1st gear and a 1:1 5th gear. Can you say "have your cake and eat it to?" can't wait, should be able to knock down almost 20mpg with a big block in the '32 5w.
