If you turn it, do you have to heat treat it or anything?

Mile High Cranks can nitride the crank after turning down the mains. That is what I will have done.

Back maybe early 70's I called Gapp&Rauch when I found out they were putting Y block 292 forged cranks in the Windsor with grind/machine work. I had a crank; would have been a 1k $ bill.

It will have been heat treated throughout if it was a forging, but if it was a Hi-Perf crank, like a high horse 396 for example, it may have been Tufftrided. Tufftride is only a surface treatment a few .001’s deep that enhances the ability to reduce scuffing and abrasion.

We ran a bunch of the 350 Chevy cranks offset ground and used small journal 327 rods in the sprint car.

The stock Caddy rod journal is 2.250". It had a 6.625 " length.
A BBC rod is 2.200" and 6.135". That's what most guys retrofit in the 390.

If you run the longer BBC 7.250" rod, you can use a standard SBC piston.
The Pontiac 455 Rod is the same diameter rod but it is about .125" too wide.

    Your mileage may vary.

I have a good friend that was racing in the Hemi Challenge series. He said they were running Honda rod journal size in the 426.

This was done around 10 years ago. 425 Nailhead stroked to 450ci. Lots of port work to facilitate breathing. Crank was not welded, only offset ground to accommodate SBC rods. She goes. @gary terhaar
